Anyway, I'll keep playing with things. A big issue with the pictures in the OP was they were just cloud to cloud and weren't very intense at all. Hopefully I'll be able to catch a more intense storm.

I am glad i inspired you, these dslr are great for low light pictures. I have a friend with a d40x and he's almost got me talked into a external flash with some gels, i was looking through some of his stuff and he gets very creative with that flash. heres a link to his flickr account check some of his stuff out
