my first car I learned to drive in was my 86 Legend 5 speed. Then I totaled that and bought a 90 auto, hated driving an automatic, it just never shifts when you want it to. Then I sold that and bought my 91 5 speed coupe. I will never go back to an auto, no more waiting for up shifts and down shifts. Plus I actually get better mileage. I have never tried the back hand technique it seems really akward especially since the 3rd gear in our cars doesn't always want to go in at high rpm's. I'll give it a try though.
