since you have experience with bulb i suggest you MAXIMIZE you fstop and minimize your ISO the max Fstop (you dont have to go as high as f22 bot f13 should do the trick) will givie you much more in focus and a greater depth of field

Another idea if you wana keep your fstop down around f7.1 i would suggest switching to manual focus this way you could set it. auto focus has problems in the dark. when you rotate the fous ring so that the lens moves out you are focusing on things close to you then youmove the focus ring into the body you are focusing on things far away

Ithink the buildings are out of focus and by doing either of these or a combo of them will succeed in an even better shot
oh i think i see what you mean basically make sure that the lens is at infinity focus and then try it out, right? I know what you mean with the af being weird in the dark when i get it where i want it i usully just shut af off. otherwise it will try to focus on things it can't see. I have to use the same technique when i shot lightning if you try to focus too close in the dark you get just terrible images. thanks for the input rich.
