A random orbital is also called by many in the detailing world, a jitter bug. It basically only vibrates, really not working polish, but it can apply wax. For the weekend warrior detailer, you will want to look into 5 items, all of which are Dual action polishers. The Ultimate Detail Machine, The Porter Cable D/A Line (7424,7336,or the meguiars g100), The new meguiars buffer, The FLEX Buffer, or the Griot's Garage buffer.

I have the Meguiars G100 buffer, and absolutely love it. It removes a great amount of swirls, but it wont remove all defects (for those you need to get a rotary.) Im working on my coupe right now and am using Meguiars #83 polish then topped with Meguiars #26 Wax and its coming out great!
