Yay! I got a cookie. Hehe. I wish I knew the story behind my SMLE, my first rifle... I'd get pics but it's locked up in the safe right now. However, this is what I know.
I was wanting a WW1/WW2-era surplus rifle, specifically a Kar98. Couldn't find one, but ended up stopping into a gun shop here in town that specialized in older surplus firearms. Found this slightly beat up No. 1 Mk3* Enfield that dated back to 1918 and picked it up... only $120 so I took it home.
It had a problem with the safety catch(the recoil would flip the catch back on every time I fired it) so I took it back to the shop... one of my high school buddies was working there. I opened the case and got a strange look on his face. He had sold the piece to the shop and I ended up buying it... he regretted selling it, though.
Still have it sitting proudly in the safe. With the handloads I have it groups very decently for a 90 year-old rifle with iron sights. I'm still impressed.
