In oklahoma, unless you want to conceal/carry a pistol, or own something like an automatic rifle/pistol..you don't have to have a lisence for anything.
Gun laws are very different from state to state. Here, you can purchase as many guns of any kind that you want, but in places like Cali, you are limited to how many you can buy per month, plus waiting periods from the time you buy the gun until they actually give it to you.
If I were put in a situation where I needed to have/use one of my firearms then I need to reevaluate my lifestyle. No responsible gun owner should ever WANT to be in a situation where they might have to use their weapon.

I know this is going back a few pages, but I have to disagree, as a security officer who has had to discharge his weapon more then once I can say in a high tension situation for fast low light target acquisition a laser is definitely a very useful tool, I have a Beretta 9mm (Service Weapon for many years) and am soon to acquire a Sprinfield XD .45 Tactical, The XD has tritium(sp?) night sights which I have also found extremely handy, though not as effective as the laser when your suspect is in a low light area (course here comes the argument for tac lights)
