Talking Thought you G2 Guys might like this story...

So I called up the local Acura Dealership to ask about a price for what I called, a transmission filter.

Kragen, and Autozone websites both listed it as a transmission filter kit...so I was going off this info in my price comparison.

SO anyhow, I get parts on the phone and a young woman answers:

Parts Girl: Parts this is Blah Blah how can I help you?

Gabe: Hi, I'm looking for an automatic transmission filter for a 94 Legend.

PG: Actually no Acura models ever used an transmission filter...

G: (thinking ) No actually the 91-95 Legends did.

PG: Nope...no Acuras have ever used a transmission filter.

G: On the Legend, when you drop the pan, there is a small metal housing that is replaced...inside that metal box there is a screen or a filter or something...but you change it out like you would a filter...

PG: I'm sorry but I've never heard of that and I've been here for five years and I'm sure that Acura transmissions have never used filters.

G: Let me ask you this, when you guys do a transmission service where the pan is dropped, can you tell me what parts would be on the invoice?

PG: I'm sorry I can't tell you that, let me get the service manager for you...

Service Manager: Hello this is Brad how can I help you?

I tell him what I'm looking for and go through almost THE SAME EXACT conversation I had with the parts girl...

The Service Manager switches phones and gets to a computer with what I can only assume is an exploded view of the transmission...

SM: I'm looking at the transmission right now and nowhere do I see a filter listed or named...

G: Okay well maybe I can get a part number and call you back?

SM: That's fine sir, but I can tell you right now with 100% confidence that Acuras have never used a transmission filter....

So I go to my computer, go to acuraoemparts.com, and in literally < 5 minutes had the part number:

25420-PY4-000.....#1 on this picture referred to as the strainer.

So I call back ....

I ask to speak with the Service Manager first since he's the guy overseeing the guys in the trenches...

Gabe: Hi Brad we spoke a few minutes ago about the transmission filter, I just wanted to let you know that I found the part number--

He interrupts me...

SM: Okay let me transfer you to my parts girl then because she will help you with that--

I interrupt him...

G: Thats fine but I just want you to know that its referred to as the Strainer. When you drop the pan it is a little metal box held in with 3 ten mm bolts and it should be periodically changed. In fact, it seems that over time once it gets clogged, it will cause bucking and slipping symptoms that might be misinterpreted as a dying transmission, when a simple drain and refill of fluid and changing out of the Strainer might just be ALL thats really needed. Hope you guys have been changing those things when you get Legends in for service!

I was bs'ing of course but I wanted him to feel as stupid as he made me feel only minutes earlier....So he's quiet for a few seconds and says okay, thank you sir have a nice day and transfers me to the Parts Girl....

I give the parts girl the part number and it comes up, she gives me the $40 price and I say:

G: So yeah, looks like the Legend used a transmission filter after all...even though its referred to as the Strainer...it's tomAto tomOto I guess.....but now you know for the future

PG: Well in the five years I have been here I have NEVER sold one...

G: That doesn't mean they don't exist....I hope a bunch of people haven't had their transmission needlessly rebuilt when replacing this Strainer might have easily fixed their problem....

PG: .................................................. .........is there anything else I can help you with today?

G: No...that'll be it...thank you!

Fin....
