Progress was made tonight. The tach lead from the MSD box works fine with the factory tach. I did the timing calibration with the crank sensor, set idle timing, and it runs much more smoothly, but another couple of problems have emerged. I have a coolant leak from the water pipe under the intake manifold. I cursed before when I saw that the head gasket set I bought didn't come with the large o-rings which seal this area, and I just matched them up with some a/c o-rings. Apparently this was a bad idea. Oh well, gives me something to do tomorrow night, I guess.
