it's not crap - it's an underdrive pulley. Read about underdrive pulleys
here. It discusses the problems with poorly designed underdrive pulleys (primarily too much underdriving). The main point of concern is that underdriving can causes problems in the accessories that are being underdriven - the alternator, a/c, and power steering.
