Exclamation Bose Stereo Repair

Last week I had my standard Bose OEM stereo on a 93 L taken out by a local audio shop. I was having them see if they could repair the display being too dim to see, I've read many people have had a similar problem. They said they would take a look at it and get back to me. Today I called and was told that to repair it would take 3-5 weeks and cost about $298! It would have to be sent to California. What should I do? The guy asked what else was wrong with the stereo system and I told him the left front speaker was not as loud and the right and that the right front speaker often sounded fuzzy especially with bass. I told him I read it could be the amp. He reccomended replacing the radio, but (correct me if I'm wrong), that would entail not only replacing the head unit but all the speakers and that would be very expensive. I like the Bose radio and would like to keep it, plus I just spent $220 on a CD Changer for it. Please help, any advice or reccomendations would be greatly appreciated, sorry about the length of the post.
