"The BIPM (Bureau International des Poids et Mesures) specifies that the order should be N·m not m·N[1]. When talking about feet, that is saying it should be lb. ft. not ft. lb.
One ft. lb. is one pound of force applied to a one foot lever, which is inherently one foot away from it's fulcrum.
