I've bought a 95 Legend L from my uncle almost 3 years ago (he bought it from the original owner back in 2000). The car has been barely driven and babied since the beginning. only 42000 miles. I was involved in a wreck last week and the car is totaled. Insurance is offering me a little less than $5000 as the value of the car, which I plan on disputing so if anyone has advice on that, I would appreciate that as well.
Here is where I stand now: although I don't drive my 2nd car often (less than 3k miles/year) I do want something I enjoy and is reliable. Do i take the insurance payout, dig into my pockets with another 5 grand or so and buy a used car? Or do i spend the same amount to get the Legend back on the road? (Does anyone have a reliable shop I can use for the rebuild in the NY/NJ area?)I'm sure I'm being stupid in wanting to keep the car, and I'm hoping for some reasonable advice, but I honesly feel the rebuilt car would be better than anything I would buy used for the same amount of money. Before the accident, the car still looked like it just rolled out of the dealership. It drives better than a lot of my family/friends' newer cars. Which way do you guys think I should go? I've attached a before and after picture. Please help!

VIN: JH4KA7583RC023683
Exterior Color: Black
Interior Color: Tan
Mileage: ~210,000 miles
Asking Price: $8,000
Reconstructed Title
Location: Wexford, PA 15090

1994 Acura Legend GS sedan with 6-speed manual transmission.

All services are up to date and I have documentation for everything. I love this car and I have put a lot of money into her. I don't have any current pictures, but will be taking some soon. Email me if interested: drew@croker.org

The only non-OEM part is the head unit. I added a Rosen head unit. USB connection in the center console. Charges as well as plays everything up to and including the iPhone 5. A2DP Bluetooth for audio and phone with remote mic, navigation with traffic, and reverse camera.

Paint and body recently worked on removing all rear fender well rust, hood repainted, front bumper cover replaced and painted.

Reconstructed title due to being rear ended in stopped highway traffic. Damage was superficial, but since the car was so old and the blue book value isn't even close to fair, the insurance company declared it totaled. Bought it back and had it repaired, hence the reconstructed title. No frame damage, just more body work than the insurance company wanted to pay for.

I don't have to go on and on about this car. If you're on this forum, then you know how rare it is to find one of these, let alone find one in good working order. Does it have minor cosmetic issues? Sure. It's a 1994 with around 210,000 miles. Factory Bose speakers need replaced all the way around, but the amp is still working fine and the speakers can be ordered direct from Bose for around $600. Mechanically, she has been obsessively cared for. I'm a stickler for every leak, squeak, and odd rattle. I have had all the mechanical issues professionally worked on at Acura dealerships with technicians who still remember the ins and outs of this vehicle, no journeymen allowed! Normally this is no problem, the older service techs are always fighting over who gets to work on her. I know I don't have to, but I'll point out again how RARE this car is.

I know the asking price seems high for the age and mileage. In the last year I have put well over $15k into her, and I have the receipts to prove it. I just can't let her fall apart. She's a third car for me and with the family and this car not being all that practical for us (2 kids under 9 and the wife can't drive a stick and I don't know if I'd let her touch my baby even if she could), I'd rather see someone who appreciates her driving her out on the road than have her rotting in my garage.

This car will be a dream come true for some enthusiast. It's been hard admitting that the time has past for me.

Thanks for taking a look.

So here's my issue: I have a 94 Legend L sedan (Automatic), when I go to start it for the first time of the day I have to hold the key and let it crank until the idle jumps up and goes back down. If I let the key go as soon as it starts then it will die right after the idle goes back down. It does not matter whether its hot or cold outside. Now the funny part is that once the engine has been running already the car starts with no issues. I have not done much to correct the issue besides changing the battery because I would like to be able to go straight to the source if possible. Thanks for any assistance!

Hi to everyone. Just wanted to say that my 1990LS is parked in the garage. It needs engine work and really hasn't been driver in over a year. After over 300k miles I just think the head died and I was getting a lot of smoke out of the tail pipe. I'm glad to say my Mother's 1989LS that I totally re-did about 6 years ago is still running strong. It has oil leaks but is going in for a complete gasket replacement in the next couple of weeks. It also had a new steering rack done last year. The paint is holding up well...with a couple of rust spots that are also going to be addressed in a few weeks.

I must say that I'm currently driving a 2004 black/black Lexus LS430 that is mint. Quite the change from my 1990LS coupe. I haven't decided whether I'm going to repair the girl some day or part her out. the interior and wood grain and the Radio/CD are all fully functional. Just haven't decided what I'm going to do.

I have a frustrating problem that I have not been able to figure out. In less than a year, I have gone through 3 new batteries. If the car sits for long, the voltage goes under 12.00v and won't start. I replaced the alternator and that didn't solve the problem. I've disconnected every added accessory this car had when I bought it, with no solution. I have pulled each fuse one at a time to try and find a short. I couldn't locate one. I've done the same with relays. I am ready to pull my hair out next! With this last battery, I didn't even run the engine. Recently, I just left the battery connected for about a week. Today, the battery was down to 3v. Disconnecting it, it started to rise in voltage on its own. I charged it, but it appears it won't hold a charge even with it disconnected from the car. Each time I had to replace the battery, NAPA found a bad cell. Does anyone have an idea what could cause a cell in the battery to go bad in a month or less? This will be the 4th battery. Anyone have any good ideas? I'm open to suggestions. Thank you!!!

This is the first time this happened... my car recently has been acting up like the battery died and somebody had to jump my car... im thinking it's because I have a used battery so its not giving its full potential... so today I was leaving the cemetery, and it turned on then turned off....so I try again and it turns on, while I'm in park the engine sound as if it's breathing.. like inhale exhale inhale exhale... while its doing this the rpm was going up and down up and down... such was weird, and so I put it in d4 and drove around in a circle and it was still doing that... so I put it in park, and turned off the car... then it stopped and I was driving and everything was fine..... now it's running normal and when I parked it when I just got to school it wasn't"breathing".... (when I say breathing it's like when your car is parked and you step on the gas and it goes vroom but doesn't go) well Yeahh.. so I have no idea should I.be worried?
If someone applies their talents and puts in the hours, wondrous things happen; they can earn a management position at a high-tech startup; own a palatial home in a gated community; and even justify a subscription to Wine Spectator. Of course the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class should probably be on that list as well; few vehicles are a better reward for strenuous toil than this high-brow hauler. If the American Dream was a car, this could be it. After all, what’s more American than buying something from a foreign company?

Hi everyone,
The history of my 1995 Legend is a little out of the ordinary.

I had an almost identical car whilst living in the USA from 1993 to 1996.
I was so impressed that I decided to change the car for a later model.
On my journey north, prior to my return to Europe, I found my current car in Georgia.
It was a demonstration model and had only 8,000 miles on the clock.

We made the exchange and drove on to New Jersey, where my son lived.
A couple of days later my wife and I flew to the Czech Republic and the car followed on.

When the container arrived in Brno and was opened by customs I noticed immediately that several items I had stowed under the seats were gone.

However, the next major problem was that in 1996 corruption was normal among customs personal and we were given the option of paying 50% import duty or a handful of cash to the customs officer. I decided against both options and simply drove to the UK, my country of birth.
There we imported the car very simply and drove back to the Czech Republic with English licence plates.
For the next four years we used the car in the Czech Republic without any problem.
Then in 2000 we decided to move back to England, taking the car with us.
We remained in England for a further three years, very disappointed with how England had changed, and decided to move to France.
Problems began immediately. American car - no chance. I had to fight the authorities for one year before they finally agreed to allow me to import my Acura.
OK we then had EU licence plates.
However, my wife was born in the Czech Republic and I also loved the country and people, We decided to move back, now that Communism was over we felt there would be no further problems.
Not so. 'You cannot import an American car into the Czech Republic', I was informed.
To shorten the story.
Because I had an EU licence plate I wrote to the EU and finally, once again after much correspondence, the EU ordered the Czech Republic to grant me permission to import the car.
We in fact had a meeting with the deputy minister of transport for the final agreement.
The car now has Czech Number plates.
But I have two cars and I am 78 years old. I cannot keep the Legend any longer.
Last year I had an LPG gas system installed, which makes the car very economical. It has five new tires, new brakes all round and a new battery.
Can anyone suggest how I might sell the car?
That's the question.
It is pearl white and has 130,000 miles on the clock.
Having a GPL gas system must make the car almost unique.
By the way it had the cylinder head gasket changed a few years ago so hopefully that problem will not recur.
I would be very pleased to have advice.
Thanks everyone,
Geoffrey
