Why did you decide to mold the rear bumper?

Looking good, Leon. That rear bumper would make me paranoid about a rear-end collision though.

Is yours an auto? I had considered FI on the 540, but I had read that the auto tranny doesn't hold up well to the added hp. I haven't looked into it for several years though.

I know, I know...but many years of driving and I have always avoided accidents. I stay away from people if you know what I mean

Yes, it is an auto for now. I am looking at options of doing a swap before going F.I.. Truth is, I replaced the A/T last year with a brand new unit. That was $5k.

I molded it for a different look mainly. Not many e39s around here, but 99% of them are stock.

Graeme, do you still have your 540i? I wish VF was doing their Stage II kit (475HP), but alas, its been 3 years almost and they are still on Stage I (400HP) only.

I know what you mean about staying away from people. I'm especially paranoid now since I got rear-ended by a motorcycle in my GS-auto a couple of years ago that caused $4500 worth of damage.

Yup, the 540 is still around. Had toyed with the idea of FI until finding out about the transmission issue. Then I got discouraged since it was going to be more work than it was worth to me. Aside from having to do a swap, I'm pretty much stuck with Dinan for emissions purposes. As you know, Dinan is $$$+$$$ and then some more $$$.

I found out that the Tranny is good for about 550hp.
Lucky for me in KY, emissions is a non-issue

I admit to not looking at this for a while because it would make me want one, yeah it makes me want one I wouldn't give up the coupe for it but damn if I change toy cars the BMW will most likely be what I go with. Awesome work as I suspected you are truly one who is synonymous with such.

Thanks guys - telion, I would love to see what you do with one!

I am torn guys.

Looking at this, would you say 19x8.5/9 front, 19x10 rear or 20x8.5/9 front, 20x10 rear?

Car Thanksgiving (Friday)

I was in Atlanta for Thanksgiving, and I knew of a shop that I normally dealt with when I was in High School. They were thrilled to see me - I must say that the deletion of all of that hardware is a weight savings that is serious.

The guy who cut it (right at the Y, after the cats), did not expect it to drop as it did (jammed his fingers, lol). But I lifted it, and I assure you that it is at least 120 lbs of metal to deaden it.

Then they asked me how loud did I want it. I asked for just the straight pipe to the rear with a tip....so, I am standing there watching as we start the car with nothing but the cats on. WOW! It sounded so fierce...that V8 rumble that you hear from the Cobra or Corvette (when modded).

I went with a straight through Magnaflow muffler to take a little of the edge off, and added a chrome square tip. Best mod ever. Quiet unless I jump on it, no drone, and deep, fierce at WOT. Best of both worlds. I fell no loss of low-end torque, and I felt more high end acceleration on tap. It was a fun drive home from Atlanta!

Looking forward to FI!

my next question would be with the 528it manual can the straight 6 put out power stock.

but looking at ur pics and reading ur thread is making me want to get a BMW like yesterday, but the 5 series iT are very rare to come by

yes - those are on order. I am making that a part of the future interior upgrade ( power folding mirrors), along with black leather interior upgrade, Navi Retrofit, 6 speed swap, supercharger, new rear diff/LSD, H&R coilovers, rear fender rolling for some 19x11 R, 19x9 F - custom wheels, TBD.

Current mods include: front/rear M-Tec conversion, molded rear bumper, DEPO AE, 5000k Xenon, Amber M5 fogs, 18x8 +20mm F 18x9.5 +20mm R TSW Thruxton, painted black, black Kidneys, Carbon Fiber Roundels, full resonator delete (weight reduction), Magnaflow race muffler, H&R Sport Springs/Koni Yellows, Brembo Rotors, 20% tint all around, black pearl metallic paint. The car has not been waxed yet - as it just came out of paint 30 days ago. It should look great once it warms up and I can wax her

I would love to get my hands on a 540iT. The headlights are DEPO (aftermarket). If you get a newer 540iT, you will have the M5 style front and rear. But you can make the newer bumper retrofit to an older Touring.

As for the 528iT question - what are you asking? If you want to know if they can handle power, I do know that there are some turboed 528is out there....you should join Bimmerforums. Here is my referral link....all that you need to know is over there!
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...ferrerid=54134

Thanks for the love! I am not a big fan of molding either, but the situation called for it, and I figured it was a way to make the car stand out - different from all the copy cats adding M5 parts to their e39s. You know, you want your car to have a signature. This is hers.

I'm not a fan of the I6 in anything larger than the 3 series in general (except for some of the new ones.) It's always V8 (or currently V10) for me.

The beauty of the 540 is torque. Makes driving seem effortless.

The 540iT isn't all that hard to come by. Do a search on autotrader, and I'm sure that you'll find a list of them. One of our OGs recently purchased a nice white 2000 540iT and is in the process of making a few changes.
