I wonder when it will become big here, you got to love the wide lip on the rims. I just think most folks haven't caught on yet. minus the curtains and those tray holders in the back seat and you got something.
Funny how styles change with fixing up cars: I remember back in the day you really didn't think about how tall you can get your rims and tires, it was more about how wide can you get those tirers, then I seen they started back painting rims again, that was big back in the day. Then I remember piping the seats where real big here, everyone wanted to pipe the seats and change the color. Funny how the car market starts following the after market.

Yep so true.
I remember benz with the wide body kits, and the biggest rim back then was 16". Honestly to really do VIP cost alot of money and the older guys with the money to do this shit, dont really care for it. |

My understanding was that the VIP scene started in the poor neighborhoods of Tokyo when tuners would mod their cars to look like the more expensive luxury cars that Yakuza bosses rode around in. They chose to use 4 Japanese cars as the platform, namely Nissan Cima and Cedric and Toyota Celsior and Crown. To this day these four are considered the platforms on which true VIP cars are built.

Eh...What up Doc

Actually I read (wikipedia) that VIP started with the Yakuza with Benzes. But driving Benzes would get too much attention from the wrong people(police). So they bought their domestic large RWD luxury cars and tricked them out instead.

I agree. Imagine going over a pot hole and busting a tire and bending a rim, or breaking the bumper skirts on a curb or driveway. That would be f@cked up. This is why I think all the more reason for the Yakuza to do it, to make themselves look so powerful and resourceful that body damage wouldn't be hard to fix, and to seperate themselves from the average joe.
