Added larger filter and converted to diy CAI the Legend has responded very well.....

Good performance weekend for the Legend I got rid of the small Akimoto intake. I never liked the smaller triangular shaped filters that are open ended. I added a huge cylinder shaped K&N filter the filter has to be about 12 inches long it looks like the type that would be in a truck. I initially thought the Akimoto was okay but after driving with it for a while I realized it was too small. I added the K&N as a regualar HAI and after a day of hard driving I inspected the intake and to my surprise the intake literally was tearing the heat lining on under the hood apart orange dust and crap was torn away from the lining. The sound was great. I don’t post much because I try not to make comparisons between the Legend and my previous Maximas. The intake on the Maxima was incredibly loud but it (the Akimoto) was too quiet on the Legend. The K&N is louder but still refined. So when I noticed the intake tearing apart the lining under the hood I decided to convert to a DIY CAI (Thanks Leon) I honestly thought the intake would be louder because it was no longer in the engine bay but from the cabin it did not appear to be louder. I need to have some drive the car while I am not in it so I can observe from the outside. The throttle response is much better, I suggest going to a larger filter. You tech guys can debate if the engine is getting more air but the throttle is much better. I am surprised how strong the engine pulls with $224K miles I will do an engine swap this summer so I am really looking forward to the performance with the JDM.

I also got rid of the huge NEUSPEED muffler I think the muffler was just too large for the car. The muffler was too loud, and to be honest I don’t know what kind of muffler I added. (When I purchased the car the owner told me the stock muffler was in trunk I threw the muffler in the garage and never thought about it. Saturday I take it to a muffler shop and there is another Legend there I saw the underside and the stock muffler is huge. The muffler I added already had chrome tips on it and it long and flat but…………it does not sound stock. It honestly had a nice rumble like some of the older stock bimmers. I am sure you guys now the rumble I am talking about that the old 3 and 5 series have. I am very happy with the setup. As far as the intake as long as it is dry I remove the foglight cover and if it rains I will throw it back on.

if it rains you might want to take the extention off because putting the foglight cover back on wont save it from a puddle
