Angry Annoying Resonance with Stromung cat-back....

Hey guys, I had the Stromung cat-back exhaust installed about a month ago at a local shop. Because the bolts were toast where the b-pipe meets the cat and because I didn't receive enough gaskets from Stromung, the guys at the shop decided to weld the b-pipe to the cat. Everything was fine for the first couple of weeks, but now I have a VERY annoying resonance at about 2900-3k RPM's. The resonance seems to occur mostly when the engine is under load. It really sounds like sh*t and I don't think I can keep driving it as is. Do any other Stromung cat-back owners have this resonance? Might it be specific to the 6-speed? Or is it possible the shop did a poor job on the install?

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

check all of the heat shield bolts. when i did my exhaust, i had one around there, and it turns out one of the bolts wasnt tightened down.

also check for leaks. try and get your car on a lift, and with the car running, pour some water over the meeting between the b pipe and the cat and see if there are any bubbles from a leak...

it could just be your Stromung is 'broken in' now. when i got my remus, it was quite a bit quieter than it is now. after a month or so of driving, there was a noticeable difference in tone and loudness.....

I would check the install, it's a possibility that they didn't weld it very good and you could have a pin hole or a leak. I would get it checked out. What does it sound like? Tin cans rattling?

Thanks for the replies fellas.

Yes, it does sound like tin cans rattling....but at a very fast rate. It's to the point where I shift at 2500 RPM's just to avoid it. I to suspect a poor install, but I thought I'd ask here first to see if others have had it.

I had rattling when my Greddy was first installed. My mechanic and I had my Legend on a lift and saw that because the brackets on the Greddy were slightly larger one of them was hitting a piece of the heat shield, near the cat. He bent it with his hand and it's been more than a year and I've had no problems.

My car had the same problem for a long time. Once I got it up on the lift I found that one of the heat shield bolts was loose. All I had to do is bang the exhaust pipe and heat shield a few times with my hand to hear the sound get reproduced - then I just followed the sound to the trouble spot.

Problem resolved! It ended up being a loose heat shield after all. I thought the shop that installed my exhaust had removed them, but apparently not. All is well now.
