Also Legends 91-93 in paticular have the internal cooling system do a lot of extra stuff thats not needed, eventually causeing heat to build up in case of an air bubble or loss of coolant. the early 2nd gen legends ran coolant to the oil cooler and DIff of all things.Great idea but, it would build up heat, beacuse it made the system more prone to air pockets or loss of coolant, that heat eventually takes a toll on the composite HG. The new legend engines have it all capped off and the oil pump cooler is removed. same with the RL block. Speaking of excessive, they put a cooler for the power steering.

~TRu Hybrid
So is it OK if I bypassed the oil cooler, the diff cooler and the extra places the coolant goes through ( which like u say is capped off on the latter versions of the c32 ) ? Wouldn;t the diff overheat though?
I guess u guys have a good point, a properly maintained car has no reason to get a BHG.. And when mine does go eventually, I'll get aftermarket ones ( i found a place that sells them for $45 each) and slightly overtorque the head bolts as mike D suggested. I wouldnt mind trying the copper ones DV8 mentioned, 85 bucks per side?

I have a '95 and my HG went. But then again i have 195k on it and some old lady drove it before me.... I belive the radiator went at 75k according to the acura service records... Any way, like i said before, I wish i owned this car from day one, I suffer from OCD when it comes to preventitive maintenance. --=Keith

We use a standard head gasket and o-ring the block. Works for us.

We have a hand operated cutter that can be used with just the heads off, probably in a legend it would be easier to pull the engine.

I've been working with cometic gaskets to get a set of Multi Layer Steel gaskets made, I know several people that have had gaskets made by them with great results. I am replacing a buddies HG on his coupe, I have his car sittin in my driveway, as soon as I get these gaskets I will be posting pictures. I also tried getting some headstuds from ARP, I tried 3 different studs, the threads fit, but the length was too short, so with any luck maybe ARP will make a set that will fit.

I didn't realize we were back on the aftermarket head gasket issue. It'll be interesting to see how it pans out this time.

Multi Layer Steel (or MLS) gaskets will work. Most of the Honda 4 cyl use them and they do not blow like the composit gaskets, so I know they will work with the deck design. Just got to have someone to make them. The Mitsubishi Eclipse has torque specs for a standard composit or MLS gasket. the MLS gaskets specs are like 20 to 30 lbs tighter, so if we do have a set made then they will need to be installed with a torque spec similar to the honda 4 cyl w/ an MLS gasket.

Another route that can be taken is to find out where Jasper Engines gets their graphite head gasket that they use when they rebuild a C32A. That company does an amazing job at researching an engines fault and find a way to fix them and make their rebuilds better than OEM. Research their site.

What make them a few steps above the rest is that they give you a 75k 3 year no questions asked nation wide parts and labor warranty. Usually when something happens to one of their motors they just send you a new one.

guys,

C35 gasket looks exactly the same(everything), but the part #s are different..even if they were the same..then they WOULD have same part number through Honda. So i would say the makeup of the gasket has slightly different materials. I used C35 gaskets and over torqued studs by 2lbs each.

PS_ do the 93-95 coupes have a different diff cooler etc....my lines run to the lower part of radiator...just curious. Havent really looked into it.

I have had copper HGs done on both my G1 and my G2. I've had no problem with either one. The problem people may be running into is seating improperly. Copper headgaskets shoul be heated up in boiling water for 5 min before install, this aids in making the gaskets pliable for installation. The copper HGs hold up great on my 91 Sedan. I have had it overheat twice since I installed the new gaskets. Once cause the fans stopped working and the other time because of a crack in the radiator. Still, the headgaskets are holding up!

Soulman: $85 per side is about right for copper HGs. That's what my friend would charge outsiders for them. He only charged me waht it cost for the copper sheets. He used 3 sheets for each side. I guess if you were to use the same kinda term for these gaskets as the Multi Layered Steel gaskets, these would be MLC gaskets. I'd rather use copper than steel because copper disipates heat a lot faster than steel does.

Later!
Lenny
