Custom Polyurethane Engine and Transmission Mounts Are Done

The Legend's stock mounts are pretty weak, and obviously as everyone knows the rear transmission mount is almost useless. It is usually broken on most all Legends, it seems to be poorly designed and not strong enough for the car. Even the front 2 engine side mounts are very weak and seem poorly designed. I believe these are what would be our torque mounts, but they are truly weak and flimsy. Even new oem mounts are a waste, becuase they will just break again. NickD tore through a complete new of brand new oem mounts in just a week or two, with an automatic. Even Dv8 ended up going with welded steel metal mounts, which would solve the problem of breaking the soft oem mounts and excessive movement, but probably too harsh for a street car. Solid metal mounts or extremely hard urethane mounts generally have excessive vibrations, shaking of the car, noise, rough feel, etc. Great for racing, not for street. Unless you are a hardcore racer who doesn't care if your teeth get rattled out from the vibrations lol.

I took out the mounts on my GS, they were all broken. All of them. People have been trying to get someone to make custom mounts for us for years now, no success. I said f it, no one is going to make real custom mounts for us at a decent price anyway, and decided to make my own. The rear 2 mid mounts between the engine and transmission are a "solid" rubber type in stock form but they are still soft/weak and tear. I may experiment with those soon. I re-did the rear transmission mount and front 2 engine side mounts in custom polyurethane, and they came out amazing. I chose and mixed the casting compound mixture in a hardness that would eliminate all play and movement and not break like oem, but is soft enough to be comfortable/streetable.

I now no longer have the excessive transmission movement during shifting that I had before, no more clunky or rough shifting, and no more engine movement, even under full loads and WOT and shifting. Everything feels so SOLID, connected, direct, and responsive. No power or time is lost in engine/transmission movement when you first hit the throttle or at WOT (wide open throttle) at high rpm. The best part is, there are no additional vibrations or shaking or harshness from the new solid polyurethane mounts that I can detect. It feels as smooth and quiet as stock, but without the crap mounts. THIS is the way the car should have came from the factory.

If people are interested I may consider making them for you guys. If not, I will enjoy them for myself.

i am so in. No really i am!

Look up the normal cost of "solid" motor mounts used on civics and charge us close to that price. Then figure how much you would have to sell to make profit.

I know yours are GS, but you have to make them for standard coupes also!

for us guys that dont have hybrids or turbos ...but have some power

Let us know!

How much for the set? How hard would it be to put in the engine mounts?

Thai, and other guys I got your PM's but if you don't slow down I can't empty them as fast as they come in lol. If you need to send me a private note, please email me at desijigga786@yahoo.com instead of PM'ing me, my PM's are always getting full.

The rear transmission mount is bad on nearly ALL Legends, if you have any rough shifting or clunky feel while shifting, that is most likely your culprit. When my GS was auto, I thought it shifted pretty smooth for a Legend and I might have been lucky to have a rear transmission mount that was actually not broken. When I took it out and looked at it, there was nothing left in the mount, not even a STRAND of rubber. The steel bolt hole in the middle was just dangling in the middle of nothing lol .

After doing my swap, is when I noticed my car was shifting horribly. The shifts were hard, rough, sloppy, and clunky, I could feel the whole transmission dropping and slamming back up into the car. It is much more noticable with a manual transmission, especially with a Stage III clutch. Now it feels amazing with the new mounts in.

Installation of the front 2 engine side mounts is relatively easy. Going from under the car it took about 1 hour total to remove them and put the new ones back in.

Bah, I forgot to take pics before I put them in, I was way too excited to see how they would work lol.

Solid polyurethane bushing Civic mounts are probably mass produced by big companies who are able to sell them for cheap. Civic short shifters sell for $50 but Legend short shifters cost $135, 270% more. And Phil isn't making huge profits on them either. The Legend performance market is NOTHING, compared to the Civic's. The cost to make custom parts for the Legend is high, not many people will buy them, performance parts companies would only be wasting their time and money making the parts, so they don't bother.

If it costs me more time and money to make them in a large quantity for everyone, than what the civic mounts sell for and that's all that people want to pay, it wouldn't make sense for me to lose my time and money either then. Thats what I want to see, if people want them and are willing to pay for them or not.

All that said, I want to be fair, and I am not out to make some huge profits and I don't want to overcharge fellow Legend owners for the few mods we are able to obtain. I'd love to bring a new custom Legend mod to the community to benefit all and make everyone happy with better performing Legends, and be more than willing to do it if there is enough interest and I can simply recoup my cost and working time.

But really I have no idea on pricing and all that yet, I am not even sure if I will make them to sell. I have not tested them out extensively either to see if they will hold up over time and abuse, etc. They are definitely stronger and much improved/better feeling than oem mounts though. I may perform more extensive testing with mine for awhile first, and see if I can make the rear mid mounts out of polyurethane also. I am thinking about doing a set for Jameel since he is local and maybe we can take pics of those and he can give a review and second opinion on them for you guys. I just want to see how many people are interested and would really buy them IF I were to make them to sell. And whether or not I would be able to do it for a reasonable price that would be worth it both for the people buying them, and for my cost and time it takes to make them. If people don't want them though I don't mind, nothing wrong with being the only unique Legend with all fully custom solid polyurethane mounts.

Swift this isn't directed towards you, I am just stating my thoughts. Everyone can feel free to comment.

I will test them. After NLARLM, my lower balljoints are shot. And my tranny is clunking a little harder. All my mounts are good, except for the rubber which is probably past its prime.

Ps----You are cooking something up aren't you ahaha, these and then the flanges??

I'm in! My rear tranny mount has been shot for a while. Would be great if you can also make the other mounts as well!
Peace!

Wow!! Good job. You know how I tried (as well as many others) to get these made for us to no avail..OF COURSE I want SOME!!!

Let us know a price, maybe make a set and take pics, or even offer a how-to and materials needed. Would you be willing to sell the materials needed for a DIY project? It would be cheaper than shipping mounts back and forth.
