Does Muffler Size Matter?

I plan on installing a custom cat back on my 93 legend, and am going to be buying a universal muffler, however I remember reading that stock mufflers are like 22 inches loing and the one I am planning on buying is 24 inches long, is this going to be a problem or no? All the piping will be redone so I assume they can fabricate me something but I want to make sure.

http://www.procarparts.com/product/U...-3089-MUFX.JPG that is the muffler I will be buying so you can see the measurments all around. by the way anyone ever had experience with otto racing? I don't really care that it isn't a name brand I used to have an MRC muffler, and I loved that thing, sounded awesome, I may be wrong but I think it is just hard to make certain engines sound bad, so I don't think my muffler makes a huge difference anyways any help is very much appreciated

No, it will not really matter - it may stick out a little farther but apart from that no. Also, your exhaust shop will be able to fabricate around it to bring it in. You will be fine. Good luck

If you are looking for performance go Greddy. "Performance" parts from procarparts wont do you much good, plus I hear they sound bad...

I would go with a greddy muffler\exhaust but I'm not serious enough about it to sopend that much money, besides the fact I don't like any of greddy's styles. The muffler is more for style than performance to me. All I am buying from procarparts is the muffler, and (maybe I'm wrong though) but I always assumed mufflers aren't supposed to really do that much performance wise, an exhaust was more in the piping than in the muffler. and for the piping I've decided on 2.5" and hopefully mandrel bent if I can find a good shop that does it, however I do know of good shops that do crush bends that are supposedly light? Do you know if the ones that supposedly sound bad were from otto racing? or just from procarparts in general? Cause I can't really find any other places that sell the style I need. Like I said above I think certain engines really can't sound bad cause my accord had an mrc muffler and I loved that thing, I think the problem mostly lies in the smaller engines like in civics and integras. I'm not too worried about the sound, mostly more about the tips size I wanted dual 3 inch tips or dual 2.75" tips....

On a side note any more pics of your car? it seems to be a pretty nice car, just wondering if there are any fuller shots of it though...thanks for the reply by the way

wel first length matters as more length to a perforated core muffler equals more silencing. hence the use of resonators they efffectively add more length to a small muffler.

i have seen some mufflers like these. i think they had a PS sign on the top of them (not playstaion of photoshop) but just a PS emblem on the top. they are nice and quiet when the car is not moving and when they get going its not bad at all. its a llittle noisey but perfectly fine and very smooth.

heard one on a J30A V6 powered Accord and a Cadillac DeVille Concourse. both sounded great.
