Double Tube intake?
THis is going to sound stupid but does anyone know if an intake with two pipes and two filters is going to make any difference in power? I heard it would lower hp unless I was using FI.
Thanks, Ry |

Dethred-
It's honestly not going to do anything, because we're not using a MAF sensor setup on our cars... on some FI vehicles, like the Supra, some people that can't afford a MAF elimination kit (HKS VPC, GCC or AEM EMS) are taking two MAF sensors on two individual intakes, and splicing two of them into the factory wiring harness, thereby technically doubling the airflow that the motor can injest (that the MAF can read - they're only good to around 18psi)... but having two intake pipes on a Legend wouldn't do anything... except take up space.

On my friends 92 Legend Coupe, he had a dual intake system. How it worked was there was a slip or V like tube that went to the stock airbox and to a short ram. Blocking off the short ram side was a plate that was opporated by a vaccum actuator. The intake path was stock until it reached 4K RPM where the short ram would open. What was obtained from this was a stock feeling car down low with no loss in torque and after 4K RPM it felt like your ordinary intake with goot top end gain.

Chris, did he feel any difference between a normal CAI? I figured in theory it would be less air restriction because there was that much more surface area of filter to let air in... probably makes no difference though..

I don't know how it compared to a CAI, but basically the short ram filter section performed just like the regular underhood untakes that you see around. The difference was under 4K RPM it was closed off and the air came from the stock air box. This was developed because often the under hood intakes loose a little but of torque and HP on the low range. This obiously solved the problem. Also, it was quiet as stock for normal driving and only wailed over 4K RPM.
