Dv8's ADDCO Bars/Ksport coilover install with Pics & Review& DIY 11/28/06
Important update:
I was just notified br Roger that i did not recive the 10/8 's i requested because the head engineer knew it was going to be to bouncy and destroy the shock. Roger didnt know about it until now. Instead I recived the revised 13/7 from an orginal 13/9. I could be angry, but it feels great so, i could care less. ~Dv8 ADDCO Rear Bar short review Driving around wasn’t any different, nor did I expect it to be. Making a turn didn’t feel any different either, nor did I expect it to be. Going 50mph around a 90 degree right turn was a big difference. Where I didn’t have confidence and would go for the brake with the stock bar, the addco bar feels like its pushing down the back tires preventing them from sliding as easy. More or less that’s exactly what its doing to the lower control arms; giving the rear less flex-or sway. I actually had to accelerate to sprint out of the turn instead of countering the effects of a fishtail. I didn’t have the balls enough to go through the twisties tonight to see it in constant action. It was mostly the crappy Scorcher tires I have on that didn’t make me feel very confident or comfortable. When the volks go back on with the Gforce KDW rubber, I'll go for a more aggressive mountain run. I can assure you all that with what little I experienced, it’s definitely is a vast improvement, and well worth the $129 as a handles part. 11/28/06 Rear bar is finally installed. DIY 1)Raise the rear of the car on jackstands at the specific jack points under the rear doors. Take a mental picture of how everything is installed. The ADDCO bar will install just like the stock one. 2)When removing the old rear sway bar, detach it from the end links conecting at the lower control arm and of course the front clamps. ![]() ![]() 3)Swap out the driverside endlink only as it was stock to the ADDCO bar and tighten the nut using a hand rachet, no air tools. The nut will only go so far, dont go overboard tightening it. The endlink bolted to the ADDCO bar will still swing around easily. ![]() 4)Take the passenger endlink unbolt it from the stock bar and bolt it back up to the lower control arm as it was originaly and loose. 5)Swing the ADDCO bar into position under the car and start manuvering it to link up to the passenger endlink, not connecting the driverside at this point. The bolt head of the endlink should be facing away from you. (This is tricky as the ADDCO bar has a different angle making it hard to thread the bolt through.) 6)Get the bar at the right angle to have the bolt thread through enough so you can thread the nut a bit. Tighten with rachet. 7)At this point you can bolt the other endlink to the control arm losley. 8)Install the new bushings and clamps, bolt everything down including the loose end links. 9) Drop the car and drive. Update 11/22/06 More driving time has concluded that the Ksports are a dramatic improvment over the Koni/Eibach in terms of full performance handling. Very little to no suspension travel, firm yet comfortable ride, and the adjustability of additional firmness and ride height. There is a firm one rebound bounce you will have to get used to going over road waves or uneven pavement, but its better than a few soft floaty ones that slam down on to the road. I experience oversteer on sharper turns as my suspension stands now, although i experienced it before too, just on a smaller scale. My next review will be of my rear sway after installation and driving time. Stay off crappy roads and you will love them. *********************** Short Term Review: After 20 minutes of driving, I had a hard time letting go. If that’s any indication of where my review is headed then you know it will be positive. At first I noticed, nothing. I was expecting to drive out of the driveway teeth chattering, instead I felt something that was really comfortable! I kept at it and went through some twisty roads. Unlike my previous setup (koni-eibach) there is hardly any noticeable suspension travel, so the bounce is gone under normal driving. Road imperfection are soaked but still felt a bit. Going over road waves and bumps at higher speeds the car tends to shoot upward and come down-but stay down instead of bouncing lofty, which caught me off guard. Potholes are definitely felt more so due to the firmness, but nothing that can’t be avoided. Cornering is much tighter and there’s a huge level of confidence taking a corner at high-speed. I could feel the back start to sway, but I have no other suspension modifications to speak of except the KMS front tower bar. I’m a realist and know I’m comparing this Ksport setup to now antiquated Koni and eibach setup that I’ve had since 00'. God knows those boys have seen a lot of road. However I do own a CL-S with Tiens H-Tech springs on stock shocks. It’s slightly firm yet still really comfortable on 19's. Comparing both cars there isn’t a world of difference in terms of smooth riding road, as for stiffness its definitely more so in the Legend once you get a slightly less than perfect road, still not as bad as one would think. Comparing to my friends 4 door Integra with Tien SS, the Ksports are days more comfortable them being spun to soft even. The Integras spring rate is 8 front 6 rears. In conclusion, this suspension is leaps and bounds better than what i had previous, and even better than lots of other cars I’ve driven in given the drop and wheel combo. It’s so comfortable for the moderate to extreme enthusiast, no one shopping for legend suspension should buy anything else. My spring rates are: 10 fronts and 8 rears. I'm currently on the softest setting. Rear coil over is adjusted to 22.5 inches from top to the middle of the eyelet. Front coil over is adjusted to 16.5 inches from top to bottom. *********************** I recived my Ksports yesterday. They came packaged very well. I thumbed through the paper manual and noticed it was not specific, but it may not have to be. The springs are not marked with the spring rates so its always in the back of my mind wether or not the spring rate is what I ordered. I'll be installing two saturday morning, then the other two during the next week. I'll be bringing you all my thoughts once the install is done and then after I drive it around. My spring rates are 10 front and 8 rear. Some people wanted to see the Legends Ksport stance, this is mine. ![]() ![]() ![]() ~Dv8

so my question about these is, how do you change the dampening on the front and rear? and how many choices are there?
My friend with a 240 got a spring/shock combo that was adjustable. For the front 2 there was a screw on the top center of the top mount(the part that pokes through to the engine bay) that you turn and there was 4 settings. The rear shocks had a nob at the bottom so that you could lay on the ground and reach around the tire and turn the nob to adjust them, there where 8 settings in the back.

I believe these are adjustable from the top via a key/allen key tool... correct me if I'm wrong.

But do you use the allen key even on the rear??? so you must remove the speakers every time you chance the settings? yes this is a lot easier than the koni reds, but not as easy as they could be. see the nobs on the side of these.... ![]()

I spent 3 hours and installed the passenger front and rear. The install actually took about 1.5 hours for the two, it was adjusting the height i wanted that took another 1.5 hours. Unfortunatley you cant adjust ride height with out unbolting the bottom of either shock body from the fork(front) or hub(rear) everytime.
The advantage to that is not having to compress the spring, thus giving the coilover full spring travel. It really was no big deal I did it 3 times for both front and rear before i found a suitable height. From the top cap to the bottom of the coilover is 16.5 inches in length. the rear is from the top cap to centerline of the eyelet on the bottom is 22.5 inches. I have about 1.25 fingergap with 215 40 18's. I already have a guide on my brake line that came with the goodridge lines that i zip tied to the shock body-no problems. Im going full soft on mine to see how it feels. The rear speaker was fairly easy to pullout and drop the shock. The rear in general was super easy. I will do the other two next week. Sorry no pics, my girlfriend has my camera. In all fairness it was super easy job, when you have all the tools at your disposal and a big garage. I guess im not used to parts that just fit.... ~Dv8
