No way man.....I had to squeeze my tranny swap into a hectic work schedule.... I would say paying someone to do it is easiest. Of course, with some of the more serious Legend projects, you just can't trust anyone with your baby.

DV8, what time of differential oil did you use? I'm debating whether I should use regular gear oil (80w-90), Mobil 1 syn gear oil (75w-90), or 100% Lucas oil stabilizer. what do you recommend??

DV8, so is it a direct replacement for the internals? I am very interested in this and planning to get it and have my mechanic install it for me. What do I need to know when getting this installed? Any custom mounting or work need to be done? Or is it straight forward? Thanks man. You make me proud to be a Legend owner.

Please respond back.

direct plugin unit. 901-gold is the part number. if you take the diff off yourself via pulling the engine it shouldnt cost you more than 2hr time at a mechanic to put it in. however if you do it yourself, you in for hell.

read reno's take on it.

RL block, TYPE II heads, 6spd Tans, 5spd ECU

I had both type I and II auto chipped ecus, besides rev limit there were no differences between the two. I actually felt more punch on the chipped type I ecu.

Besides a better fuel mapping on the 6spd ecu to take advantage of the 6th gear, i dont think that the 5 or 6 spd ecu's chipped are going to be any different especially when tuned with the apexi safc, not to mention i cant take advantage of the higher revlimit because i shouldnt over rev a 3.5 liter anyway.

Why do you think its better Tnelson?

well, if you look at the type I and type II motors respectively, the only advantages a type II has are:
valves, intake manifold, cam, ecu.

the ecu it optimized to use these advantages for max power. i dont know if it will give you anymore than 5 or so peak hp, but i think it will be around that. in a business where we try anything to squeeze a few more ponies, i think this is something you could take advantage of. although i do agree with you that you do not need higher revs.

Your right when it comes to the 6spd ecu in stock form vs the 5spd in stock form the 6 ecu should preform better. However when either of the two are chipped and then individually tuned with the apexi SAFC, i dont see any possable differences besides rev limit.

i was just thinking that the cam could possibly be affected, or not maximized at least, guess it should be fine, seeing that the air fuel curves are similar, the tuning will be the trick. should get quite a bit of power out of that(5-6 hp)
