Engine swap question

hi guys
YES i did read through the forums and Iam pretty sure no one has answered this before. When you do a motor swap.. How on earth do u manage to get the motor + tranny out? I have done numerous civic swaps, piece of cake, but never done something like this before where the tranny sits underneath the passanger compartment.. Do you guys take the tranny off?
By the way, iam planning to do the swap on my Vigor ( 5 speed). My alternator belt snapped, which in turn took the other two belts.. One of the belts got stuck inbetween the crankshaft pulley and lower engine cover. Timing belt skipped several teeth, and the pin that aligns the crankshaft pulley onto the cranackshaft was bent! Iam posting this here cuz the legend swap seems pretty similar to the vigor swap ( I checked the vigor forum, nothing there).

I have taken out the radiator and AC condesnor so that gives me a foot of extra space in the engine compartment. was wondering if there is a special tecnique of taking the motor out with the tranny attached. Hopefully it isn't too hard, i have to do this on my driveway and it's freezing cold here in toronto.. Worse case i guess i'll swap out the head.. but i rather do a complete swap. If any of you guys who did swaps can post of a pic of the motor going into the bay, that will be great, thanks in advance.

By the way, what about the differntial? can i leave it there ( although the service manual asks to take it off). Reason why i ask this is, u need some special tool to pull out some shaft that goes into the differntial from the tranny. Was wondering if i can leave it there while pulling out the motor

PS. my cherry picker doesn't have that tilt handle witch which u can tilt the engine.. it just has a hook to which i attach the chain .

When you say you checked the Vigor Forum, did you go to the yahoo groups forum?

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/...andlegendclub/

There have been several engine removals there, and a few people have pulled trannies, so you should be able to get some good info there. I think you have to pull not only the tranny, but the differential as well. Not 100%, though.

Toronto, eh? Me too! What are you doing with that old engine?

yes iam aware, did u not read my original posting?
Similar swap for legend and vigors, i just need to know if i have to take the tranny and diff apart before pulling out the motor or if i can do that withouth taking them off , which would be so much easier. And no luck on the vigor forum, i tried

on the G2, ive seen them removed with the tranny still attached, but yea the whole thing was tilted on the lift to slide the tranny out from under everything

Well, in the TL forums, the 2.5 guys removed the transmission first.

The 2.5 TL's use the same G25 block as the Vigor.

Don't remove the trans - you're wasting your time. Pull the axles, then yank the motor/trans together as one unit, while laying the wiring harness on top of the motor (pull it through the firewall, away from the ECU). Use a Load Leveler to balance the weight of the trans/motor together, and hoist that junk out.
