Engine and tranny swap

Well,

It's time. Today I drop off my baby to have a less than 45K JDM 3.2L engine and automatic tranny installed or swapped.

I've mentioned b/4 that the original engine has over 311K and the tranny has a serious torque converter chatter.

So purchased from a place in Miami a JDM engine and tranny for less than $1500!

Doing some serious other detailing. FAL dual cooling fans with a blue shroud, more blue detailing under hood.

Can't wait.

More details when finished.

very cool, sounds like you're planning on making that Legend last another 300k. Post pics when you're done.

Blue detailing, eh? How so? I am just curious, under my hood I went with a blue theme as well.

Blue underhood

I've had blue underhood for several years. We have a local auyo paint supplu dealer that will put ANY paint cvolor in as spray can and make it Hi-Temp.

I've been using this guy for hyears on body col, ored brake calipers, under hood stuff, etc.

So for my Legend which was already "blue" I opped for a more "royal" blue.

Painted the fuel rail covers, the timing belt covers, the spark coils. Used blue hose covers on the hi temp, blue silicone on all the vaccum lines...

Blue wire loom over the rest.

Fuyse cover painted blue, blue battery hold down...

And probably the ONLY Legend like this, narrow dual Flex a Lite puller fans in a blue frame (order FLA 210B). So, so cool. In fact the Legend has two fans. One for the A/C one for the radiator. Using the dual fans gets dual fans for both.!!!

Anyway. Very excited. Adding steel braid brake lines too!

Peace y'all

Hey if you're getting the jdm engien and tranny swapped, wouldn't you need the JDM ECU also for the shift points, since the two tranny are different, correct me if i'm wrong?

That's what I'm thinking, my brother. I had heard that the gearing in the JDM tranny was different. Dv8 would be the one to know for sure, though. Christian?

A PX9(TYPE II) Tranny mixed with a PY3 ECU(TYPE I)

OR

A PY3 tranny(TYPE I) mixed with a PX9(TYPE II) ECU

will yeild shift slopiness.

JDM or not a TYPE II ecu will have this effect mixed in with the TYPE I tranny. the engine however will work fine, the ecu will be throwing a silent TCS code since its not there.

The way to find out if you have a JDM TYPE II Engine is to see if there is a PX9 on the very top-back of the intake manifold, since they dont come badged with TYPE II.

Type II vs Type I

So first. Type II refers to the engine in the Coupe w/the 6 speed correct?

I can only tell you that my mechanic did not mention any such issues and he "reportedly" has done this swap before.

Back to the engine/tranny. The engine and tranny are a set, the way they were put in the car.

Type II engines have the large intakes correct? The engine looked identical (just newer!!!) to mine.

I will let everyone know what issues I run into.
