Finally got an intake

Hey everyone, I finally put an aftermarket intake on my legend. This is the first real mod I've ever done on a car, other than stereo related. I only paid $50 for this short ram, and I am very impressed with the increase in accelleration and it makes a sweeeet noise when you punch it here's some piccs. sorry i'm a little excited because i have wanted to do this ever since i got this car last summer

What do you guys think about how an intake affects performance/reliability of a legend?

Peace out yo.
John

Oh and I am gonna make it into a cold air when I get the time and so forth... How would you say the increase in performance is going from short ram to cold air?

dont worry bout the filter, you will be fine, i would cut 1/2 inch to an inch off the largest hose. and i made my own cai. ill tell you the difference.

i raced a prelude that runs errilly consistient times. i ran it. and she got a jump on me and then pulled a little. she was 1 - 1.5 cars in a 1/4

after the cai. she still got a good jump on me. but then i sucked her under. i just used dryer hose and hose clamps. whole setup cost me 6.75 at lowes home improvement. made a huge difference.

So the filter is Bomz? I had no idea what brand it was... the guy just said "performance filter." So you think a k&n will free up flow even more? Thanks for the info
And what hose is the EGR? heheh I am not used to working on cars and i know next to nothing about what hoses do what... I really appreciate your help though

Also, what exhaust flow is being blocked exactly?

I don't know if i'll be using dryer hose but I definately want to extend the intake down through the area where the resenator was and put the filter where the cool fresh air is... Everyone tells me that the cold air addition makes a major difference.. I can't wait until i get it figured out

I actually have the same filter and like it better than the K&N. It's a lot louder and I can chrip my wheels easier than before

CAI How To

Dryer hose is an easy and cheap way but it doesn't yield the best gains. Also it doesn't look as good:p

In that "CAI How-to" doc that's posted all over, some adjustible piping is used that has different sections that rotate to allow the peice to go at a 90 degree angle. Those connections aren't air-tight though, and I was thinkin that dust and stuff would be sucked in those cracks on occasion... I don't know maybe I'm too anal about these things, i just don't want my engine sucking in particles. Would y'all say that pipe is air-tight enough to use on a car's intake?

home depot dryer hose intake installed with stock airbox

Here's what I used to have:
I took off the bottom part of the airbox and screwed down the filter to the top piece, this was responsive and throaty sounding.

here's what I did now:
I put back the bottom piece of the airbox. I removed my resonator. I cut my new flexible aluminum duct just about in half to fit it to where the fog light hole cover is. This will allow a direct shot of cold air to travel straight up to the stock airbox. I used the existing rubber piece that passes through the metal to connect the end of the hose. I used a clamp and made sure that it was snug. I tested it in a few diferent ways. Fog light cover on and off, and also day and night. During the day, I was a little disappointed. There was no more growl and only a tad more torque. With the cover on, it felt stock. But at night, oh my god! There was a massive difference. The faster I go the more effective this setup is. I used to lose power around 90mph, but now it pulls all the way to 105-110. Seemed really really responsive also. Even with the cover on, it seemed to be a little more effective than the short ram I had first made. By the way, daytime temp here was 95, night time was 74. I am so happy with what I have done, I cant wait to get the real thing from dv8 to lose all that turbulence. I miss my growl, but the performance gains far outweigh the sound I lost. I am keeping the cover off from now on. Only when it rains will I put it back on.
Hehehehehehehe, I feel so gitty! I still can't believe the cover being off makes so much difference. I guess its kind of a ram-air now.
