Question heat wrapping the headers

is there a benefit in wrapping the headers with heat wrap and has anyone put them on their headers because i was thinkin of putting them on since the headers really get hot i mean HOT... so i was thinkin does this effect the overall heat in the engine bay

header exhaust wrap will help cool down your engine bay. you will benefit premature breakdown on sensors, rubber hoses etc... it may also prolong header life.

dont think the heat in the console area will reduce since its right below the tranny area. unless of course u wrap that area too.

Ive heard wrapping headers may protect other stuff, but will also shorten the life of your headers through trapped moisture in the wrap and leads to cracks and rust...

Planning on either wrapping the exhaust pipes or add extra heat shields will help prevent heat coming to the console area. Driving while being baked and no ac do help keep my weight down and increase my MPG!

I Was just reading about stuff in regards to those issues. I may pass on heat wrapping the headers. They said if you need to heat wrap anything, heat wrap things you want to PROTECT FROM THE headers... so maybe it's better to go that way?

I think i'm just going to leave it as it is, and roll the dice with the normal setup..

I need to figure what I want to do with this as well, pretty soon.....seems like there might not be a best practice though for this, though it sounds like heat wrapping the AC line and a couple other electric lines is a must. Hopefully there're more threads out there on this

Moisture? How in the world would any moisture not instantly evaporate from all that heat?

i only see people wrap exhaust on turbo setups and flame thrower systems.. I would think that doing this keeps the exhaust gases expanded to better spool the turbo and ignite the fuel from the flame thrower ... Seeing legends with 300K on them without any mods or such, looking at this, i doubt it would do our cars any good...

ye i agree the best thing to do would be to wrap the materials that would get fried by the headers

wrapping headers maintains hotter exhaust gases that exit the system faster as long as not over insulate a system. it reduces under hood temperatures, increase horsepower and fuel efficiency and increases the life of engine and electronic system components.

i got it from my brilliance

i owned two supra's before and both had thermo-tec exhaust wrapp. i also had a custom cai wrapped with thermo-tec. based from my experience, the wrapp will absolutely help a lot of ways.
