jmo torque converter

Did you guys read about the jmo torque converters. You basically take of your torque converter and ship it to them. They turn it into a high performance torque converter for automatics. They fix things in it so that it raises the torque idle. So they say that it gives your car quicker responce more torque when you need it,quicker acceleration, quicker shifts and better fuel economy.I dont know what to think about it. They got into detail, but didnt give any proof of all that. Any body know anything please respond, with your info, thanks.

What is the cost of the converter? How much does it help, as in times (before and after).

A high stall torque converter allow the engine to rev higher so you stay in your torque peak or closer to it for longer periods of time along with better launches. Depending on the car it can add 0.3 - 1.0 second on your 1/4 mile time. I have a Pro-Torque high stall torque converter and from GTech runs I gained roughly 0.6 seconds in my 1/4 from it.

Nice. Sounds like a good thing to add on. What is the average cost of a converter? I never even thought about this mod until I read this post. I found a link that explains some more in case anyone else wants to read about it.

The ProTorque one cost me $403 which includes the discount for the core which they require. Level 10 makes one as well which is $500.

I only investigated into those two companies because they were pretty much local to me. ProTorque is on Long Island and Level 10 is in north-west New Jersey.

Installation is the expensive part. I was doing a tranny rebuild at the time so labor to put that in wasn't any extra.

How had is it to install? Is it possible to do it yourself? Would you have to open up the tranny ? When you talk about doing mods like exhaust and CAI which are $500 and $200+ respectively. Doing a mod like this might be well worth it when you gain a whole .6 seconds.

Does the shifting feel different? Better/worse?

Thanks for the help, this sounds really interesting.

If you can drop your tranny you can do it yourself. It's almost identicle to doing a clutch replacement on a manual.

Driving the car is different. Gas mileage goes down in the city because the engine revs a little higher on shifts. Daily driving is effected. It's a negative effect for comfort but an added effect for performance. Cruising on the highway you won't notice a big difference till you start playing.
