Legend Standalone Engine Management-AEM EMS a Reality.
Before we get into it, I’d like to thank Imran (Legend4life) for getting this whole thing started and helping me start out mine. I'd also like to thank Ken- yup you were right. (Kenso) and Matt (Sr5guy) for putting up with my questions and concerns.
Forevralegend (Erik) joined me today for what was a monumental day towards all Legends bright and open future of major modifications including forced induction. The NSX AEM EMS is currently running my car! With that said, IMO It’s been 90% street tuned. A 1 and a half hour of drive home from my tuner (Midnight Performance) in Sacramento, CA gives me this confidence. We spent about 5 hrs tuning with moderate breaks and it gained a bit more power all over the power band, along with a much smoother driving experience. My prior best dyno peaks from two separate dynos were 228WHP and 224LBFT. The best together was WHP 225 WTQ224. Tuned under the EMS the Peaks don’t change dramatically (best separate dynos WHP227-WTQ229), but I’ll take the increase in TQ. Looking within the powerband, from 3k all the way out to 6k there’s an 5-10TQ increase. Add to that very clean power delivery and almost perfect A/F as shown in the dyno below. I’ll let Erik chime in as far as a third party review. What’s it take to convert over to the EMS? Not a whole lot besides tuning. You can buy wire harness extension; it’s handy but not necessary from Science of speed. Buy an NSX EMS 1002, have a fast laptop and a good serial to USB adapter. Load up latest versions 1.19 NSX cal. Connect the EMS, square away laptop communications config to the EMS (ignition power needs to be on) and configure the TPS sensor. Pull up the fuel map and adjust the bottom-left KPA 5 rows up and 8 rows across with 3.00. This should start the Legend right up. Do not drive the car like this. Idle should be anywhere from 800-2000 at this point and the rest of the map needs to be tuned specifically to your engine by an experienced tuner. Don’t make the mistake of driving on an untuned EMS or else you may risk your engines life. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Take to your nearest experienced tuner and have them tune the rest out. Wideband is a must. It’s really that simple. In the coming days I will post my Calibration file here for the community. It cost me lots of money in total , but as I’ve said before we are all here working together. My tune in no way represents your Legends. It will still need to be tuned, just may say all of you some paying time. Again don’t go driving on it until its fully fine tuned for your engine. I will be adding to this initial post. Pictures, screenshots and any thing else I can add to make this a reality for all of you. With all the many incredible features packed away in the EMS, this is it boys, this is the future of the Legend as we all know it. Before: ![]() After: ![]() *****UPDATE******** I forgot to mention that with the EMS the fuel pump will stay on at 2nd click ignition. The stock legend ecu will prime the fuel pump then switch off, the EMS will keep it on continuously. This is due to the fact the NSX uses a seperate fuel relay while the Legend incorporates its ignition and fuel together into what we call the "main relay". The fix would be to convert over i assume. It doesnt pose any problem as long as you dont have it on for a long time. When i was testing and didnt need to start the car, I would pull the FP 20amp fuse under the dash. ![]() ![]() VIDEO***** Just set my 2step revlimter-As I said, the EMS has a boat load of features. Right click and save target as. http://www.2slik4u.com/video/movies/ems/2step.MOV NSX startup cal that will start the Legend, but is not tuned for the legend. http://www.2slik4u.com/images/EMS/nsx1cal.V1.19.cal My tuned EMS cal. USE at own RISK! updated 3/5/2007 http://www.2slik4u.com/images/EMS/Legend.V1.19.cal ~Dv8

Thats what I'm talkin about. Did the tuner do a cell-by-cell tune or boost compensation? Did you learn a bit about the procedure so you can fine tune it yourself in the future?
That looks like almost a 25HP gain at 6K. What was your prior setup, by the way? Tuned SAFC with Bayou Type I ECU? -Matt

Congrats man, I knew you'd get it up and running! The most interesting thing to me off the top of my head is just how much smoother your dyno graph is after the AEM tune. Also it looks like the power carries out better after 6k, I think you'll actually notice that at the track. Looks great.

i love how ur torque peak and ur horse power peaks are sooo close to eachother, you are opening some big doors with that ems i cant wait to see what mods your going to do next now that u have the means to tune whatever you please. After the in car tuning, your car felt way better! And ur a/f ratios through out the band are very very straight! Good luck with everything, hit me up whenever, cant wait to hit up the track with you.

I think I know what is next on christian's mind. If we don't see 315 or better in blown hp within the next year I will be damn surprised! Excellent Job! Thanks again for being an inspiration to all the rest of us. And easy on the throttle, I'm sure all that torque would make short work of some tires!
Regards Matt

Cell by cell. You know there are many sections with same or similar values. Ask Erik, tuner took his time to tune it out, its really the only way. Ive got small jolty hesitation at certain MPH when applying 7-12% throttle. We did in car tuning and it smoothed out a bit but he couldnt hammer it gone lean or rich. On my drive home i realized it was in between those %, because that pretty much all we apply during normal cruising. I have a feeling the tps is worn out inthat section since i had a TPS do that before. Im going to buy a new one and test it out. Deffinitley learned much more, im far from being self sufficient but i can do in car tuning ok. AEMpro makes it pretty easy. I didnt even see that gain! When he shadowed my previous dyno with the current one, all i paid attention to was the TQ raise in parallel with the old TQ. Prior was tuned afc with bayou T1 st2. 2 step, Vtec activation(we can use as vis flap activation),turbo,sc,nitrous control. TCS (different than ours),auto, manual trans control, rev control, A/F control. The list goes on and on. Quote:

Damn, I love it!
I always am looking for gains for tq, not just hp. This is amazing, and I remember Imran talking about this wayyyy back when. So I'm glad to see this up and going and cannot wait for things to come. I will not stand in the way, as I do not know 2 shits about any of this stuff. I love you guys for doing the work, lol. But I'll buy and learn and go from there. Thanks alot to all you guys who did this. Amazing work.

Yea Yea, I'm not conciding to the Type II manifold yet, just am going to try it and see.
If we go out on a Sat. test and tune you know we'll be racing one another. ~Dv8
