Type II Manifold Fitted

Type II manifold dropped right in. This was just a test fit. Nothing ever works out this easy for me.

Entire Type I manifold fitted just to make sure everything lined up, clearance, etc.

Intake manifold comparison

Here are the intake manifolds, if you ask me the 3.5 RL manifold is pretty much identical to the Type I it has slightly longer runners. I am definetly going with the type II.

TYPE II, 3.5 RL, TYPE I

TYPE II

3.5RL

TYPE I

Throttle Body and VIS system comparison

The mounting for the throttle body plenum is identical. Type I on left, 3.5RL on Right.

The throttle bodies are identical except for a vacuum tube. The fuel purge vacuum nipple is relocated from the front of the throttle body to a 90degree elbow on top of the throttle body. The throttle body plenum is obviously different, fast idle valve is re-located and the vacuum nipples are completely different. The sensors on the water passage are swapped. Type I on left, 3.5RL on Right.

The throttle bodies are the same size. Type I on left, 3.5RL on Right.

The VIS system flaps are 100% Identical. Type I on left, 3.5RL on Right.

The lower part of the plenum mounts up identical, but has a extra plate to block the EGR flow, I like this design much better. Instead of distributing the carbon throughout the manifold, it just stays right in that spot. Type I on left, 3.5RL on Right.

Water Passage Differences.... Questions

The fast idle valve is relocated to the front of the intake manifold on the 3.5. Should I install the type I water passage on the and nipple on back of drivers side head onto the 3.5 motor, or should I use the 3.5 throttle body plenum?

Type I

3.5 RL

www.car-part.com

There is a 3.5 in Rhode Island for $250.00 with 65,000 Miles on it. The salvage yard in Connecticut where I picked this motor up has another one for $350.00, but it has 116K on it.

I would swap the pipe and the fitting over from the Type 1, that's what I had planned.

So technically a Type II intake mani would swap onto a RL block? What would be lost doing the swap (any Sensors, Emissions stuff, ect).
