Yes, if you didn't gather that from the pictures - its not a "tecnically", its a definite :-). If you swap the entire manifold assembly with injectors, fuel rail, coils, etc from the type II/Type I, you wont loose any sensors and it makes it very easy to wire up - no cutting/splicing, etc.

I'm pulling the old motor out of the car today so I will post some more pictures up later on.

Why are you choosing the TYPE II Man over the others, what are your reasons?

I used all things 3.5 there. It made for a much cleaner install. However your using the TYPE II man so youll have to do things a bit differently.

Dont mind the #'s on the vacuum lines, i just reused the lines in different locations.

Dusty, I know!

You mention the TBs are the same size, what was the mesurment of the two internally mm?

just from looking at the type two manifold it looks like it flows alot better then the others.

I feel that way about the RL. Matt are you up to flow test them?

the RL and the TYPE I intake manifolds are designed for torque.

The Type I's runner length is increased but adding that extra bit of metal there.

the Type II removes that surround on the intake runners. those runners are then able to grab from more area and the point at which the air constricts itself in the runner and is pulled into the intake valve is shorter.

the Type II is better for High RPM engine running. it's more of an "open" manifold than the Type I which is more of an open (albeit narrower) manifold than the RL. The RL should flow more than the Type I but the Type II has a higher RPM power range than the RL.

Type II for high RPM.

When comparing the 3.5 to the Type I, in person, they appear to be very similiar. The only difference that is apparant to me is that the 3.5 has slightly longer (.5" - .75") and angled runners. The design, shape and diameter of the runners appears to be the same.

Taking this into consideration and without getting technical, I am considering the 3.5 manifold to be pretty much equivelant to the Type I. Therefore, I expect similiar gains to Kenso's Type I -> Type II manifold upgrade. I guess I'll find out on the dyno!

Another reason I am doing this is for easy of wiring and sensor placement - I want it to be as compatible as possible with the Legend's sensors, wiring, ECU, etc.

Lastly the Type II manifold is much easier to do a home-brew port and polish on :-).

I didn't measure them with a precision ruler, they were both 2 3/4" ID on the measuring tape if I remember correctly. I can check further tommorow. I didn't measure the OD, but they are the same, I butted them up to each other and triple checked.

This is a low budget project - just doing the best with what I have, I need to get the motor in and running ASAP so that I can move the car around... I kind of wore out my welcome at the garage parking lot :-). Where can I get/ how much does flow testing cost?

I am going to leave the rev limiter in the ECU set at 6200 RPM until I locate and install a set of type II cams and valve springs. I certainly dont want to fuck up a perfectly good motor. Any one have an extra set they would be willing to sell?

Got the car in the shop, motor out, stripped down and made a big mess in the process... all in 6 hours!

Yes, its dirty...

I feel like a kid in a candy store :-D

What exactly is happening here? Is the car coming off or the motor?...

I made a big mess!!!

Thats not all coolant - a little mixed in with the melted snow.

I'm in over my head :-D

I haven't seen a pic like this yet - 91-92 Legend PASSENGER'S SIDE mount bracket on left, 3.5 RL PASSENGER'S SIDE mount on right

Legend on left, 3.5 RL on right... The Legend bracket has more adjustment - but wont bolt up to the 3.5 RL head, a bolt hole needs to be elongated.

You got me all reconsidering my RL manifold choice. Its so clean though. I have a spare TYPE II man sitting in the back. I sold my PnPed one a long while back.

Its soaking in the parts solvent now, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything to it - I might have to get it hot-tanked or waste $20.00 on some brakeleen.

My boss thinks im nuts for dropping the motor out from the bottom, but he doesn't realize that the frame is my "Jig" for lining up and making the passenger's side motor mount.

I'll try to document as much as possible. Unfortunetly, I don't have the funds to "waste" to do everything the way I wanted, but I'll get it the best I can. I can always upgrade later!

Haha... well there's no question that its going to get done, so a progress thread is good, plus it might help you out a bit with your project. I have an idea for the motor mount I'm going to try out tommorow - the RL mount leg is shorter than the Legend's so I may be able to rig something up with a bent L-Bracket and some nuts, washers and bolts - we'll see.

My deadline to drive out of the shop was friday, but it looks like it might be next Monday or Tuesday - I have alot of other work I have to do at the same time. Y-pipe modification, control arms and brackets, struts, water control valve VIS solenoid valves, brake power booster and some other stuff I'm forgetting has to be installed.
