Why is it called 3x Service?
I have a question: After reading some archived posts about the 3x drain and fill, what does the "3x" refer to? From what i've read, it sounds like people are advising that a ONE time drain of 3.5 quarts done over 3 intervals is what they are recommending.
I just had a tranny drain/flush done today at a dealership, but I used 12 quarts and did it 3x in one sitting. The tech really knew what he was doing and with each drain/fill, he ran through all the gears and really got the gunk out - THREE TIMES. Now, the car feel noticeably smoother and is working beautifully, but did I make a booboo? Was I suppose to drain/fill 4 quarts over 3 service trips? Can someone explain? |

The Tech performed the procedure correctly. The vehicle holds just under 12 qts. The object is to change all of the fluid which cannot be done at one sitting (fluid in torque converter). By draining/refilling 3x while bringing the vehicle up to operating temps between each drain/refill, the old fluid is diluted and displaced. In performing this as a DIY, it can take a day or two. Now, every 3,000 drain/refill using 3.5 qts
of Honda A/T fluid. |
