Hey, maybe you're the reason he doesn't come around anymore! j/k

Yeah, Gil is a nice guy. I've met him once and emailed him off and on. He's been pretty busy, and has since passed the Legend to another family member.

jackdanielsman, you can download the 91-93 service manual here.

The drain plug is on the right side (left, if you stand facing the front of the car). There are two drain plugs on that side. One is for the differential, and one for the transmission. The transmission drain plug is further rearward; best seen from behind the right front tire. Also, the plug does not have a hexagonal head like the oil plug does. It's round with a square hole to fit a 3/8" (I think) ratchet (only. No socket needed.)

That picture is of the differential plugs (upper is fill, lower is drain). The transmission drain plug is on the same side but further back (the plug looks like the lower (drain) plug on the differential.

stop clunking?

does this transmission flush stop all the clunking my transmission makes. it tends to clunk really loud when i put it in reverse. But it isnt as bad when im in drive. does this process stop all clunks and make the gears shift smoothly??

clunking sound would be tranny mounts and/or engine mounts...

Just a drain and fill. No need to really flush the diff out that bad unless you find metal shavings in the fluid when you drain it.

One question: Where do I put all the fluids when I'm finished? I hope you don't drain them into the sink? :-)

check your local township for disposals, in my town we hav a place where we can dump fluids for free. if not check like straus or pepboys or any local shops. some places will let you dump your old fluids, sometimes for free again
good luck

Auto Zone definitely has a free service for oils.

Thanks guys!
So now a very controversial question. Would you recommend to to the 4x flush or just drain the old fluid and replace it with new, maybe an additional filter change?

way to necro a super old thread here, but ive got a g1 thats shifting rough. A knowledgeable member of these forums reccomended me to try the gils flush. I read through the thread, and it was said this is geared towards G2 legends... Will this do my poor old G1 tranny any good?

bump for a stupid question. Would a $40 power flush @ the car wash be just as effective?

This method is a safer alternative to doing a power flush on your transmission. Other than maybe fluid capacities, this method is not specific to the G2.

I'm considering doing this on my wife's 2000 Odyssey. Good idea, bad idea? Any opinions?

ok, I'm going to be using genuine Acura ATF-Z1 tranny fluid for my flush. So can I increase my re-drain intervals to 1 full day (40mi) rather than just a few miles?

EDIT: Just wanted to let you guys know that there will be a new DIY up soon for adding a filter to your tranny! It uses a oil filter relocation kit and a few feet of hose. I am doing this today and taking pics. Maybe this will help out some of our trannies.
