4x Tranny Flush left me with a stiff shifter

Yo! to all and thanks, as always, for all of the help.

'91 Coupe, L series, 267k. Had it since 92k and have never done any trans service before. No problems, just looking for a little less clunky action and wanted to take care of the car. The shifter itself was perfectly smooth and easy before the work.

I did Gil's 4x tranny flush. I believe that I did it to the letter, including SmartBlend. I put about 30 miles on it with the type F fluid, then about 35 for each load of Dexron. I really let it drain each time (hours) and got just shy of 4 quarts out each time. I swear, I measured it. 3.9 quarts, each time.

Trans fluid...including original old stuff...looked surprisingly clear and good.

The car is running GREAT. Shifts beautifully. However, after each successive change, it was harder and harder to move the shift lever. It has not gone away with the Honda ATF and the SmartBlend in car for 3 days now. It ain't easy, I have to pull (or push) pretty hard for one hand. Very, very stiff.

What the hell? If not for that, I'd be a happy guy with the 4x change.

Thanks.

I may be mistaken, but I believe the actual shift lever is a totally different mechanism than the actual shifting of the car. I'm pretty sure it's all electrical, so there's no logical reason why the fluid would affect the lever. Could be something else, like the shift interlock?

You didn't do this to a manual transmission did you?

I know. The lever should not be affected by a tranny flush. Yet, the lever was smoooooth prior and now it's lousy. Not grindy, just a really stiff push, almost as if it was wedged between some thick rubber.

And, no, I did not do this to a manual trans. I [i]wish[i]it was a manual trans, though this is by far the best auto trans I've ever driven.

You know, there's an elec plug down there...not sure where, just in trans...that I've been told is really hard to get in all of the way. That happened at a stealership 3 years ago. Caused the D4 to blink (what doesn't?!?) and shoving it all the way in stopped that.

Could there be anything to that as it relates to this?

I get that sometimes, where it's hard to move the shifter. I haven't done the flush, so I don't know that the flush has anything to do with that issue. I'll have to look into this plug though.
