i did this tranny service a few weekends ago......its does wonders to the AT. it shifts so much smoother now.

tofusensei - yes that is just a magnet that collects the metal shavings....mine was COVERED, yes all that stuff that is in that filter is the stuff you dont want in there, so yest that is a sign of needing the new filter. Im not sure what you are refering to on the last picture, but everything seems to look right.

I talked to my parts dealer and he said theres no need to replace your transmission filter unless your doing major repairs, He said Acura is the only one he knows that says the filters r good for the life of the car thats why they have A lot of detergents in there tranny fluid....

when i did mine there was a whole lot of little metal peices in the filter, so replacing it will no doubt make the filtration better. also when you take the pan off of the bottom of the tranny, the drain plug and another magnet in there will be COVERED in goo which is actually metal shavings. So by cleaning these two things off more metal will be pulled out of the fluid in the future(making your transmission last longer).

.

I just scored this 90 Legend L. It has 108k miles. I don't know anything about its maintenance history. I read some posts on this forum saying that I shouldn't change tranny fluid if it hasn't been routinely changed every 30k miles or something along those lines.

I'm not sure if I should do this DIY. I do notice that my car shifts hard, and it stays in gear a bit longer than it should.

Well thanks, and nice informative DIY.

any thoughts?

Should I do a change or not? Lately I noticed a few more things about the transmission. When I gun it sometimes, and it passes the redline, it kinda gets stuck at around 7000 rpm. It sounds like it wants to shift, or needs to shift, but it isn't shifting and so it stays there until I let off the pedal.
so cmon man? ne body gonna tell me if i should change it or not? any advice could be help full.

OK!! so i finally got my parts today and wasted no time installing them. i even had the car jacked up waiting for the UPS guy to come. id say it took a good hour for the change including a thorough cleaning of the pan, and magnet. as far as results...SO FAR i am very pleased with the shifting but i can only hope itll stay this smooth and is not temporary.i say this because it seemed about this smooth on my last transmission after the one and only fluid change i performed on it. then after about 2 months a lot of good that did the trani was gone. SO FAR THOUGH YES IT IS WORTHWHILE!! heres some pics/part numbers...

O-ring gasket

oil pan gasket

and the infamous transmission filter

--victor as for ur trani shifts.for one thing unless u have a manual (which u dont) it shudnt be shifting PASSED the redline like u mentioned.) this seems like a big problem to me.1)u could either check the color of the dipstick to see wut color the fluid is.(shud be pinkish/red)if its other than u at least need to change the fluid.2)if u havent noticed already this DIY is for 91-95 models so it mite not even have a filter(chances are it does).good luck tho if u so decide to do this filter change!

This is the DIY, so it might not be the best place to post. Also, this DIY is for G2 Legends, yours is a G1. It's fine to change the tranny fluid, but flushing can be bad.

My mechanic told me not to change the trans fluid and filter in my legend. Something about losing friction material. My car has a lot of miles on it so that may be why.

delray acura. unless u dunt mind waiting u mite even wanna try a honda dealer and see if they carry them. part of the reason it took so long is because this was a special order they dint carry and so had to order from someone else. even at that it took too long.
