hey ken im getting on this...the major framing for the radio support brackets did u change that as well? i noticed the jdms are angled and the usdm are 90 degrees. the reason im askking is cus theres a shit load of wiring that runs through the whole "big" bracket and idk if that should be messed with or not...im outside tryna do this as we speak lol

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Are the wires for the radio or the upper cavity(the USDM climate control, clock, etc)? What are you trying to do?

Hey bud,

You got to keep the JDM brackets. Have a look at the JDM Radio and JDM Air con units. They are taper off as they go down. The USDM brackets are square all the way down. You wont get the JDM Radio and JDM Air Con units to fit in your USDM brackets.

I numbered the brackets when I dismantled them so just line the numbers up and screw em to the framing

im referring to where the usdm radio used to be located. i think its the 15th pic and the one u called the main assembly. on the passenger side it looks like the main assembly looks like it would stretch too far into the passenger side glove box. right by where u said "the panel is held by an incredibly strong clip...luckily we can push it to the side to get at the 3 screws...."

You shouldn't have to "mess with" any of the wiring other than for the cigarette lighter and radio. You will however need to do a lot of strategic placement with the large wire harnesses. Everything is a real tight fit in the radio cavity. Like I said, I had to hammer down a couple grounding points as well as cram a bunch of wires. If you find the old thread of my original install you'll find a picture of my buddy jabbing under the radio to get the wires out of the way.

ok its nothing to do with wiring anymore....did u use the stock radio brackets or u changed over to jdm....

what i came to notice is that (as obvious) the brackets i have (the main one) is reversed for RHD and putting the usdm and jdm together u can see that. does that mean i still can use the usdm brackets cus the jdm cant be broken down further and i tried to see if i can shoehorn it in but no good. i tried taking pics but my gf left her usb cordd home the only thing is i have to find that image of the bracket im talking about which is this

the big one at the top is the peice im trying to install. the top is where the radio would mount as its laid on its back. flip the pic and u get an idea of how the usdm looks like. that thick part on the right hand side of the pic is intruding to where the glove box would be

Ok. After looking through this DIY and my old install photos, I understand what you're saying. My DIY says you have to remove only one side of the console exterior and from the sounds of it you chose the driver side. When I wrote this DIY(several months after actually doing the swap) I think I totally over looked the two wings on either side of the brackets. I think you may have to disassemble both the driver under panel and the passenger glove box. I had everything completely in pieces before I started putting everything back together:

I remember I had the brackets attached to the exterior console frame and I just angled it in and screwed everything together.

You're the first one to follow my DIY I think so sorry if you have to help me iron out a couple wrinkles.

yea i went ahead and took out the passenger side too...the wing on the passenger side is whats baffling me. and its just sitting cus im lost to any other ideas. do i still use the jdm or the usdm. idk how to "angle it in" as u say cus the pass side wing is blocked by the glove box.....thing or bracket or whatever it bolts onto

2000th post!!!

did u have to let down the framing of the glove box in order to get the jdm main bracket to fit in?

that pic u posted is pretty much how my coupe looks right now

If everything is out like it is in the last picture I put up, you shouldn't have a problem putting it in. Everything flexes a little bit which should allow you to line up the screws to the guts of the dash. Do you have the radio brackets attached to the two console exterior pieces? If you don't, do that. That way you know exactly how everything needs to sit since the exterior pieces are what screw into the dash guts.

Also, did you switch the module that was on the passenger side USDM brackets to these new JDM brackets? If you didn't, make sure you do that. Thats the dimmer module that controls the brightness of all the interior lights when you turn your headlights on. I have some editing to do.

if its that black box theres one already on the other side..

i was thinking about bending that wing part so that it would be out of the way of the glove box but is that what u had to do? its about an inch and a half or 2 that sticks out blocking the glove box or its coming in contact with the glove box frame (skeleton )

Are you saying the dimming module is on the driver side? Somethings wrong if thats the case. I remember getting the radio brackets in was one of the easier steps during my original install. I can't imagine how you're having so much trouble. Double check that you've got it together and screwed into the exterior framing in the correct orientation.

im not too certain as i dont think i gotten to that step its just a matter of the main bracket clearing the glove box, as thats the primary issue since everything else should be simple as the way it came off. its just that i dont know how to get it to clear the glove box
