MLS Bar Installation

For the sake of simplicity, I'm reposting the installation instructions for the MLS bar.

Instead of typing it up again, I found an installation procedure written up by Steve91LS after the first batch. I've made some additions to it though.

It's the same between coupe and sedan.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Installation Tips:
by Steve91LS
Tools/Materials:
14mm deep socket, 12mm reg., 10mm reg., hinged ratchets (if possible), flathead screwdriver, zip ties
Time: 50 mins.
1.) Remove the stock brace in order to position the Strut bar easier (12mm).
(on '94 and '95 Legends which have the A/C line running along the factory bar, remove the bracket that holds the A/C line to the factory bar and put it aside - you won't be needing it. Push the A/C line back towards the firewall and tuck it under factory bar's mounting brackets.
2.) Remove the two bolts on the strut tower nearest the engine on each tower (14mm).
3.) Test place the bar.
4.) As you will see, there is a cruise control cable bracket you will need to remove and a wire harness that will need repositioning on the driver side. Remove the rear cable bracket (10mm) and remove the wire harness from its bracket by using the screwdriver to press on the release (flathead).
5.) Place the bar on the towers and hand tighten the nuts. (When putting the bar on the tower, make sure the cruise cable is OVER the bar) It may get stubborn, so the best way to install the bar is to first align the bar up with the studs on the driver's side. Then from the passenger side, push the bar to clear the top of the strut. It may take a bit of elbow grease, but it will clear and fit.
6.) Torque down the nuts using the ratchet (14mm) 5-6 turns each, then switch to the opposite side and torque the nut diagonally across until tight (like when torquing lug nuts on a wheel). This will insure even placement of the brackets to the body.
7.) Zip tie both the wire harness to the tower bar and the cruise cable near where the original brackets would have been.
8.) Re-install the stock strut bar.
9.) YOU'RE DONE!!!
Have fun!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Note that considering the age and life experiences of our vehicles, some of you may find that you will need to use more effort when installing the bar while others will find that it fits on with minimal effort. It's just the nature of the beast. You will find that if your chassis has been tweaked, you'll have to exert more effort to get things lined up. Otherwise, you shouldn't have any problems.

If you are having trouble setting the bar in, first jack the car up on the driver side after removing the nuts in steps 1 and 2 (you will need to remove all three strut mount nuts on the driver side). Set the bar onto the studs on the passenger side, and line it up as close as you can on the driver side. Now, bounce the shock by pushing down on the tire. The strut bar should fall into the studs. Snug the nuts back on, lower the car, and tighten everything down.

I don't know if it will fit with the KMS, but I think that I recall someone stating that he has done it.

No. That isn't the so-called electric supercharger. It's my air filter.

93+ owners (whenever they upgraded the AC systems) may have the AC line wrapped over the engine. There's no need to bend it under the stock bar to make the mls fit. Just bring it up in front of the bracket and slip the MLS under IT.

pics:

If you're having a rough time, remove the stock strut bar first, it helps by giving you more room, particularly on the passenger side. Throttle cable bracket was bent down, then bent up through the MLS, so the throttle cable is approximately in the same position.

Oh, and though I did not take any close pics, you can bend the throttle cable bracket DOWN, install the MLS, then bend the throttle cable bracket UP through the MLS, and reattach the throttle cable to it. Stock position just with the bracket through the bar. This video also shows what I am talking about. (link)

It DOES fit with the KMS bar, as I have done it, and have posted pics. (Do a search for it for photo's) You'll need to drop down a notch, and have brackets made for a clean install, but the difference is extraordinary...I did not notice at first, but it is apparent after a few rounds in the curves....

That's the good news. The bad? I'm not sure you can route your AC line over it...Going to check that out in the next few weeks, as I have got to figure out how I'm going to get the custom Damper back there as that's where my AC line is.

If your not getting the damper, it isn't a big deal, just push it back and under as usual. If you are, then at some point I am going to do a DIY on the damper with the KMS and MLS together. I know it can be done, I just haven't got to it, as I am waiting on the dampers....
