I can say my weatherstrip does not get squished. I just so happen to have my camera with me today and went out and took a picture for you to compare.

hmmm mine does.. at least you know what i mean though right?...
hmmmmm... im just trying to figure out why it would do that.. unless.. my moonroof was put back on not properly alligned.. but thats impossible because of the way its mounted... i'll just go out and buy weather strip softner or something.. or maybe my wind deflector is doing something funny to it..

the weather strip just seems close to the frame of the car than the passenger side... hmmm

You say it is only the driver side. To me it sounds like something is not aligned just right. Since now you know the process and it would go even quicker, I would loosen the Sunroof and see if there is any play at all and then retighten. A tiny shift could be all that's needed. I do not mean redo they whole process, just loosen the eight 10mm bolts that hold the roof to the brackets and try to shift. For the 10 minutes it would take it may be worth a try...either that or your Sunroof opening is not square. J/K. Good luck.

Hey Mktng, one other thing I thought of. I remember when I was re-installing the 4 10mm nuts (2 on each side for sedans) that I had removed in Step 7 of the FIY, I was able to see exactly where the nuts use to be on the Rail Holders (the nuts had rubbed off the paint). I remember one of mine was not quite lined up, so I adjusted it so I was putting everything (wind deflector and rail holders) back together exactly as it came off. If your driver side rail holder is slighly forward of its original position, it may be causing this "issue"...?

With Glass In

Just finished this modification with the glass left in (after taking it out gave me a bunch of grief and made me think I broke my sunroof). Took a little bit of effort to lift the slider rails up, and all I could get in there to turn the screw was needle nosed pliers. Other than that, super easy mod. with super cool results. Love it. I highly recommend doing it with the glass in, cuts out the first 5 steps of the DIY, literally took me about a half hour, and I cleaned up the wind deflector and other shit while I was at it.

took you half an hour .. and the added 24 hrs of thinking ur moonroof was broken right hhehehehe..

to tell u teh truth. even taking off the sunroof, it should still only take about 30 minutes if everything goes smooth. the added bonus of taking the moonroof off is that u can clean more of the track, but honestly .. yea you dont really have to take it off.. after i removed mine... i didnt see a point to doing it..

but.. better safe than sorry.. the guide said to do it.. so i just did didnt hurt

Ok guys, I have finally grown enough balls to do my first mod. I've only replaced stuff so far. Does anyone have any advice on this? I'm planning on doing it tomorrow. I've searched all of the threads and read them along with printing off the instructions. But I'm still biting my nails, ha! At least be on here tomorrow in case I get stuck!!

For Step 8 have the correct tools. The little screws (one on each side) are upside down and there is not a lot of space between the car and the screw head. It was a little weird to get these off due to the postioning and would be easier with a 2nd person (your son?) holding up the rails for you, but can be done solo.

The DIY mentions using needle nose pliers, another member used a small vice grip, but I used and ratcheting offset screwdriver I purchased at Lowe's for under $5.

for some other small hints I found helpful when I did mine see Additional Benefit of the Sunroof Tilt Mod

Good luck.

WOO! Just finished this mod! took quite a while for me, cuz I cleaned everything, but other than that it was a great tutorial:

I HAVE A QUESTION THOUGH! For all those that have done this...

I did this mod on my coupe, and now when I open the moonroof tilt the rubber seal on the back of the glass rubs against the roof of the car.... Whats worse is when I go to close the moonroof after it has been open (titlted) The rubber seal on the back of the glass rubs pretty damn hard against the roof, and almost gets stuck (it did get stuck completely, before I put some sewing machine oil on it)

I saw some other members have had this same issue and they used silicone.... I was wondering if this is supposed to happen? If not, what should I do to make it better?

If it is supposed to do this (cuz it keeps the water out when closed?), what do you recommend is the best lubricant to put on the rubber so the friction between the weatherstrip and roof doesn't cause wear/tear on the sunroof motor/cable?

First word of caution: NEVER use oil on rubber seals. It makes them swell and ruins them. Use silicone-based products only. This goes for hoses and everything!

And, that seal around the edges of the glass is not to prevent the water from coming in. It HELPS, but it's not the only thing. We have a drain pan in our roof and four drain holes with hoses leading to drains so the water can drain out (and trust me, it does).

My 97 prelude seal needs a little silicone every so often as it pops up and out rather than going in. Same situation here.

Now just clean that oil off of that seal with some dish soap and water and then silicone spray it.

Good job and good luck!

Mike

If anyone has done this mod and still has the little "stoppers" they took out to make their sunroofs tilt, I would love to have them so that I can return my sunroof to stock. I don't care for this mod at all.
