I don't know if it's just me, but I can't help but giggle a bit when people refer to transmission fluid as tranny fluid...

man, don't let them discourage you. put enough time and money into it and you WILL get it to work, won't be worth it, but it'll work.

So, based on all the helpful responses I'm getting, a 1997 or 1996 Honda Accord transmission is going to work? I'm just trying to find the cheapest solution to replace my tranny. Thanks for your patience fellas

Its a V6. The A/T on the Legend is going to crap: the reverse doesn't work, when it shifts it only goes to third and slips out completely going into 4th. I know, I know: clean the solenoids. I've done it numerous times. You're all probably going to say to flush it or do multiple transmission fluid changes. I'm on my third fluid change and there isn't much difference between the brown gunk coming out now vs. what came out two months ago. Interestingly, the transmission plug bolt's end is gunked up with a fine silver powder. It sort of looks like what happens on old wine that is stored and the crap builds up on the cork. I'm not 100%, but I'm 90% sure that this stuff is filings of some sort from an abused transmission. I don't really want to put a new transmission in, but I'm sort of thinking that its my only option. Now, the question is, Do I want to rebuild it or just swap it with a used one? I mean, I have two cars, pulling the transmission either way. Why would I want a transmission with miles on it already if I can (I'm not sure I can) rebuild it?
