Air condition

my car was leaking for some reason and i took it to a friend of the family, and honestly he didnt seem likes the right person for the job. He said the problem was the radiator, so he replaced it. When he changed the radiator i guess he pulled out the pulley thing for the hood lock. So when he closed it, one side would unlock but the other wouldnt, he seemed to fix the problem but ever now and then i will have problems getting the hood to open. When he closed it a second time, some steam/air/water started coming out of the car, and since the hood wouldnt open i dont know where it was coming from. Now the air condition doesnt work..did he break something? or did something just came loose? im hoping nothing broke and i can just put more freon in and everything will work fine. A friend of mines said its almost winter so i might as well hold off putting freon till summer comes around again.

Any thoughts?

I think your mechanic is all contagious screwy and now your car caught it. I would suggest trying to get all the little things fixed... and try to get refrigerant in there too cuz A/C helps clear up foggy windows in winter. I suggest you get your system converted. It'll be much easier on your wallet in the long run.

I wouldnt convert, R135A sucks, gets cold too slow and it doesnt get nearly as cold as a Freon does. My system gets 20-30C colder than my dads stock 02 TL Type-S does in half the time just my $0.02

R134a is an overall more efficient coolant than older "freon" ~ however in cars that were designed to use freon, R134a doesn't work as well when converted.

But consider: getting freon is extremely expensive and if it leaks out, can cost you hundreds to repair. Unless you've got hookups in Mexico to continually refill your system, converting is a much better option.

I converted my 90 to R-134a, all I had to do was get thr R-12 completely evacuated (very important) and another must do is to change the receiver drier to a new one, was $38 for it...

Then charge it with that oil charge and about 2 and 1/4 can of R-134a, supposed to only fill it up to 85% capacity, car gets ice cold in about 10-15 secs everytime, did this back in May, still running perfectly now, and it's still hot in Louisiana!

yeah i converted my car to 134 in april. its worth it, i live in florida and it cools cold enough. if u stick with r12 and have a leak you just leaked out close to $100 worth of refridgerant, compared to $10 with 134. 134 is just cheaper. when i converted my system i just changed the recv/drier, put in the pag oil that goes with 134 and had the system evacuated. evacuating applied vacuum for 30min at sea level which eliminates the moisture...pretty much cleans out the system, then you just charge it with a few cans of 134 and u should be set. i did it and have no problems with it, and the car cools great. i get a thermometer reading of 40 degrees while my ac is on. one thing that would help since 134 is not as cold as r12, is a sun reflector. i got one froma company who custom makes sun deflectors, it fits perfect (obviously cause its custom made) it cost about $35 but keeps my black dash from getting hot during the summer which allows it to cool the car quicker. so convert to r134 and with the money you save invest in a sun defector that fits perfectly. lemme know if u wanna know where i got it, i dont know off the top of my head but would like to refer u to them...peace
