AutoRX trial

I gave myself an early Xmas gift ...and put in a batch of AutoRX about 200 miles ago. My 89 L sedan has 339k kms on the original engine (about 210,000 miles) and I've had the lifter-tick problem for the past 4 years or so. I average about 20,000kms per year. I've tried just about every additive on the market ...my best results to date were with SeaFoam ..however, the initial positive results were short-lived. So, now I'm on the AutoRX product. I'm currently running fresh synthetic oil, with a new NSX filter, and will follow exactly the AutoRX recommended process, as detailed on their website at http://auto-rx.com/pages/applications.htm . Early report: after 200 miles of the recommended 1500 mile cleaning phase, I have not noticed any difference in engine sound, or in the color of the oil. I'll post updates as I go thru the process. Looking forward to positive results, as reported by others!!!

I keep wondering if I am the only one that seems to be getting zero results out of this stuff. I am now 1000 miles into the rinse phase and my lifters are still clicking much louder than before I began the treatment. There has been no point in the process at which they have quieted down. The tick is now audible inside all the way until the car is completely warmed up. It also ticks after sitting for pretty much anything more than an hour. This was no the case before the Auto-rx treatment. It used to tick for a few minutes in the morning and then never again all day. I have also heard some others say that the tick in their car goes away if they rev the engine. This is not the case for me. If the engine is revved the tick is even louder and sounds harsh. As for performance, I don't really notice any difference there. Some days I think it feels a little quicker off the line, but I'm not sure it isn't just my imagination. Is there something else that could be wrong that is keeping the treatment from helping? Am I the only one still not noticing any improvement? I am trying to just be patient... Any feedback would be appreciated.

Those of us who read the instructions on the AutoRX site will know that they say its okay to start off with synthetic oil if that's what's already in the crankcase ..then you switch to regular oil afterward. The only recommendation from AutoRX is that you not use synthetic on a VERY high mileage engine that is smoking, or leaking ..which, after all, only makes sense, right?

The instructions generally was to run regular oil in the clean phase. Only recently have I noticed that they have indicated it was OK to run synthetic. I don't believe it is the best idea. First you dump the oil after only 2,400 kms. That makes for an expensive oil change. Second, the clean interval was extended because they started finding that synthetic oil actually hinders the stuff from working. Synthetics work so well that it blocks the stuff from getting under it.

I am now ending my clean phase and if I take my finger and wipe the inside of the vlave cover, the thin film of sludge actually does come off easily. What I have also noticed is that where there is oil flow, more cleaning takes place.

As I mentioned on another post, on some engines I very well see that it could take a while. Why? lack of oil flow since the lifter is so plugged up that nothing flows through it as it should. Make sense?

I also see where it may not work as well, if there is absolutely no oil flow to "flush" it out.

The product admittedly cannot fix mechanical problems. It can and does clean when it is not too far gone. I was skeptical and it has worked where others have failed. It's fixed my steering rack and that alone makes it worth it. The fact that it also helped smooth an engine that did not tick before is a bonus to me.

Remember that there are exhaust valve adjustments that need mechanical adjustments and lifters do wear eventually. Auto-RX cannot fix an exhaust valve adjustment, there's only one way to do that.

Next phase, use regular oil.

What are the sludge deposits like when you peek and feel inside the oil filler hole?

Luckybob, it appears your lifters are draining down when you shut the engine off. When you restart the engine the oil pressure builds up and it is supposed to flow into the lifters and then slowly back out and maintain some pressure within the lifter when the engine is running. The fact that it drains back down indicates that the inlet has been cleaned and is draining back down through it easier. However, because of minimal flow through the lifter, The oil takes more pressure and a while to fill the lifter back up. All I can recommend is to be more patient That explains why some lifters quiet down after the engine is revved. The oil pressure increases and it is able to force the oil into the lifters at that point.

One more thing. I also used the NSX filter and after 1500 miles my oil is still pretty clean. I know for sure that some sludge has dissolved when I look through the oil filler hole. When I touch the deposits, it comes off very easily and a very dark brown film is left on my fingers. I also feel a slight grit on my fingers as well.

Maybe that NSX filter is so darn good it keeps the oil clean despite the RX treatment. That's all I can think of.
