Car 1: 1989 L Sedan

iTrader: (0)
Bought my first Acura....

Hi guys.

Just bought a 1989 Legend L Sedan for $1500. It's got 154k miles on it and just made the trip from Portland Oregon to NH (My retired father is very adventurous). Before making the trip, the car got a new timing belt, belts and cam seals (I think thats what they called them). All of this was paid for by the person I purchased the car from who is an old highschool friend of my dads and is the original owner. It's a medium brown color with beige/cream colored leather interior.

Here's the good part:
The exterior is extremely clean. They don't use road salt in Portland Oregon and the car is completely rust free. The engine bay looks almost new. It came with a second set of OEM aluminum wheels with a great set of studded snow tires mounted. No rips in the leather. Engine and Transmission run GREAT. No obvious problems at all.

Here's the bad part:
The power drivers seat is not working. Is there a fuse I can look for?
The interior carpet is AWEFUL!. Where can a nice replacement carpet be purchased?

Thanks in advance. Hopefully I'll be a contributing forum member in no time!

I already have an update on the power seat....
I feel pretty dumb, but he main switch on the dash (off/Memo) was set to off. I switched it to Memo and everything was fine.

Now I just have to get to work cleaning the interior. It's been sitting for a while.

First off, sounds like you got a super deal! We need some pictures!

As for the carpet, what is wrong with it exactly? It is very difficult/expensive to replace the OEM carpet, but people can usually clean them very well. Go to a professional steam carpet cleaner and they will be able to zip through your carpet for about $25-$50.

Well, it's the light tan/beige interior so the dirt on the carpet shows ALOT. Something was spilled at somepoint on the passenger side and it is stained pretty good. I haven't tried to clean it yet..... maybe I'll get lucky.

It's so weird that the outside looks so good and the inside looks so bad.

I used to go up to Wolfeboro a lot. I like that place...

OK. I bought two products today that really helped with the interior.
Armour All Oxy Clean. I used this all over the doors and on the carpet. I got a good stiff brush and went to town. It came out GREAT. Good enough where I've abandoned the idea of re-carpeting. If I could just find a set of good looking OEM floor mats.... I'd be VERY happy with the floors.
Turtle Wax Leather Cleaner/Conditioner. I used this with a softer brush and a towel on the seats. It did a really good job cleaning up the seats.

Now I'm just going to put some miles on it and see if it needs anything mechanically.

OEM Floormats are no longer available from acura. or anyone for that matter(unless you go to ebay, then good luck trying to find a nice set).

Try www.custominteriors.com. I ordered a set of G1 legend custom mats for like $50(or less, its been a while) in tan and they look great. they are molded from the floor pan of the actual G1.
Just a thought...

sorry about the link

it's burrard-acura.com
I don't need the hassle but I might scoop what's left and send them out but I'm pretty lazy. Let me know.
