Unhappy BUSTED... finally, after 18 years!!!

Seat belt buckle (driver side) retainer gave out...

Question(s) for those of you who have had this issue before;

1)Total time loss for the replacement.
2)Cost (if applicable) from the stealership.
3)Will they (stealership) replace the passenger side as well?

My 18 y/o uses the car daily to/from school and can NOT afford to lose the car on a weekday.

I've read through a few threads regarding this matter, very helpful... I just want to be prepaired for any BS the stealership throw at me when I go present my situation!

I thank you in advance for your reply.

This should be covered by the lifetime warranty on the seat belts. You should probably call the dealership to make sure that they have it in stock and then make an appointment for a Saturday. Shouldn't take long to replace. Not sure if they'll replace the pass. side if it isn't broken. Depends on the dealer, I guess.

i agree they fixed my integras seat belt for free and it ended up costing them 600 bones.

I believe that if you make your case and play your cards right, they'll replace a seatbelt even if it is retracting too slowly...

Mine is kinda frayed and takes about 30 seconds to fully retract...im gonna try it

Also Ferjie, dont quote me on this, but if thats the driver's side belt, I think it is technically illegal to drive the car in CA like that Since you cant wear your seatbelt and there is a seatbelt law...

ha ha, i had this problem, i believe i told you about it.

but i put it in for a recall, it covers replacing both of them. when i went, they didnt have the passanger one, so they didnt do it. so i bought the part it was like 23.25 (cost +10) and changed it myself. its kinda of a hassle, you have to cut the seat retainer clips.
and im gonna call up honda and get my money back.

but be careful, since its a recall, they may not do it unless they have everything. and they were on backorder for pass. belt and buckle. still waiting for a call.

i asked the dealership a few weeks back if this was covered by warranty... they just gave me the finger.... could this be a warranty that just applies for the US?

^its a recall of the early legends, and accords. legally, they should change it. (unless it was already in for that repair, then it can get tricky)

In US, the seatbelt system is covered for the life of the car on ANY Honda/ Acura car.
If you're having problems with the dealer, call Honda/Acura corporated and have them find a nearby dealer that will deal with the problem.

Yeah, aren't all SRS components warrantied for life in the US? Seatbelts definitely are on Hondas.

Nope...on my Infiniti when the driver's side seat airbag was acting up, Nissan wanted to charge me $800 to fix it...I told them to go fly a kite and pay for it themselves...long story short...I fixed it myself as it was simply a pinched wire under the seat....

Pffft. And I thought Nissan was a good company. hahaha. Lucky it was something simple though. =p

If it wasnt something simple...believe me I would have made a big enough stink about it to get it covered...its a safety issue and Nissan (and any big company really) will always understand dollars and cents...

The side impact air bag is a common issue with the Maixmas and I30s and in the end, it would be cheaper for them to pay for my $800 air bag than to have me come back and sue them for millions when the air bag doesnt work properly in an accident and someone was injured, dismembered, or killed because of it.

^you would get them before that. if they dont do it because you wont pay, say that you now know of this car, and its legally neglence, which can cost you millions. so give them a deal, millions, or 800 bucks
