i have just received an 88 legend the guy that gave it to me said he was having trouble with compression on all cylinders (6) i checked compression and it was fine what i noticed was that the ac belt p/s belt ant the alternator belt where all off and are lodged in the crank. i have been trying to figure out how to get all of them off but cant seem to find the adjustment bolt on the alternator. how do i get them off safely with out damaging the crank? any ideas would help
3 belts: the skinny little one closest to the engine block drives the power steering pump (located just behind the alternator); the middle one runs the alternator, and the outer one runs the A/C pump. If you look just behind the alternator, about 3 inches down, you'll see a 10mm bolt in a small u-shaped bracket. This is the alternator belt tensioning bolt. Good luck.

ok- my check engine light is always on for about 3 or 4 months now. Also when I am driving i will be going about 25 mph and the rpms will go way up and then the car will take off like a rocket it's weird and when I am idiling there is a really loud knocking sound and it comes in cycles. I just had the fuel filter replaced and that was not it. My car is 1990 acura legend. Any suggestions...
Well ...it looks like you've got some work to do!!! First, go the UK on-line manual: http://www.honda.co.uk/owner/LegendC...sg000/6-20.pdf ....and see if you can match your car's problems up to this "symptom to system" chart. Most likely cause of the Check Engine light being on is bad Oxygen Sensors ...most likely cause of erratic idle and "surging" is bad coolant temperature sensor .....that should get you started.

The Honda UK website's layout was changed, and apparently the manual was either moved or delete. Maybe someone downloaded all of the PDFs and can upload them for us somewhere...

I did, Let me talk to Lee and maybe we can put them somewhere on the server!
Yeah looks like they re-designed their entire website ...and in the process eliminated the on-line manual section.
I suggest we all send them an email (like I did) saying how we are loyal Honda owners, and how valuable the on-line manuals are to those of us preserving / restoring / maintaining Honda Legend cars. I suggest the emails be frank and courteous ...afterall, we are talking to the Brits!!! Here's the link to their feedback page: http://www.honda.co.uk/contact/contactForm.jsp The form is set up to accept emails only from British postal codes ...you can get around that by using Honda UK's own postal code: SL3 8QY
Lets all get on this as soon as possible, eh? (as we say here in Canada)
I'm going to post this as a separate, new thread, so more people see it.
