Front upper control arm instalation
Hi everybody!
I have to change both front upper control arms for my 1990 Acura Legend L 4D sedan. I already changed lower ball joints and shocks. I bought both upper arms (after market) and I have some questions about how to install them. This is the link where I have the pictures (I wasn't able to put them here directly): http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeeflmv/acuralegendl/ Now questions: 1. What is the tightening torque for nut B (picture "upper arm_2")? 2. What is the position of piece A (same picture)? I believe it should be opposite that is in the picture. 3. There is a small play between the long screw that keep the bushings in position and the body of control arm. It is suppose to be? 4. The metal piece A cannot go to the bottom of the bushing screws because of the region C onto the bushing screw. I need to tap with a hammer or should I use some sort of pressing device? All yours advices are very welcome. Thanks very much (sorry for the length of this post). |

Just went thru the same thing.
The torque for the bushings axle is about 50 ft-lbs. Align them about 90 degrees to the towers, but the use the old ones that are removed as a guide. Just put the two towers into a bench vise or a clamping table and torque away. To get the twobars into the towers, you need to press them in. However, you can do this by just rigging up a bunch on wrenches or some kind of sleeve and tightening the nut down and squeezing them in. Take note that the bar has a bend and follow the old one for a guide. To install, the passenger side arm, you don't need to remove the wiper assembly. Use an open ended wrench and slowly back off the nut. When reinstalling, have someone thread the nut in by hand and then use a wrench to tighten. Put some anti-seize on the ball joint spindles so they can come apart in the future.

Thanks very much GREYLEGEND. I think that the best way to choose the position for bushings is to tighten the long screw with the car on the ground. Then the position will be given by the car itself. What do you think?
I'll start in the morning and hopefully I'll have no problems. |

Take the old ones out and copy it. There's limited clearance for tightening back there. especially if you use a toorque wrench.
