G1 Trailer Hitch

Came by this trailer hitch which is supposed to be especially for a G1 Legend.

Anyone know anything about it? Even a brand name?

I've been trying to find information on it and have come up empty. Even searched this forum (yes, I did).

Anyway, wanted to install it to haul my motorcycle around.

Here's the pic

Figured it out, it's called a "DrawTite" by Cequent Towing Products

Appears it has a 2,000 lb Total Gross Weight and a 200 lb Tongue Weight max.

Plenty for a bike + trailer.

The three-point attachment bothers me somewhat, as most the load is pulled by the actual towing hook built into the car, with the other two bolts into the rear bumper from behind. It's those which provide ALL the lateral restraint, while the tow hook connection is supposed to do the pulling and tongue load work.

Don't know if anyone's noticed, but the rear towing hook is NOT centered. I guess that's why this hitch has the unusual attachment mechanics there. See the photo above and note how the big through-bolt is loose on the right side, with a thick plate 'washer' to hold the tow hook.

I did notice they have nothing like these in their current product offering, and if you search on a G1 Legend, they offer only another version, which stretches laterally to the side frame rails.

In all seriousness, if the tow hook is off-center, wouldn't that throw off things like weight shift between the trailer and car?

Oh, and I think I have to remove the rear bumber cover to install the thing.
Ugh. Think I'm going to see what it would take to make it easily removable (i.e., without having to remove the rear bumper cover each time). I'm thinking a couple of properly placed holes in the unseen backside of the bumper cover would do the trick.

That way, I can take if off, put it on as needed.

The tow hook is off by a couple of inches to the driver's side. The hitch is made to compensate. That's why it looks odd. Puts itself back to center.

Oh, ok. For some reason it crossed my mind that since the point at which it connected to the car (or the rotating axis, if you will) was off center, that would affect everything contrarily. Pics when you get it set up!
