So I was at the junkyard today, had some extra time, and thought I'd try and see if a G2 Type I caliper would go onto a G1...well........................................
![]() ![]() I honestly didnt think this would work out as well as it did...but we arent 100% just yet....need to find a rotor with the correct specs that will fill this space... ![]() I wanted to try this too, but didn't have the tools on hand: I know its a LONG shot, but now who thinks the G2's hub MIGHT JUST mate up onto the G1? ![]() ![]() ![]() If so...guess what? We get the bigger rotor AND the 5-lug conversion up front! ![]() Last edited by sam o nela : 07-03-08 at 05:50 PM. |

Heres the juicy details:
The splash shield required TINY modification to allow the fitment of the larger bracket...as you can see in the red circles, I was simply able to bend the small edges back...and I mean its TINY...like a few millimeters need to be bent back...I was able to do it with a simple pair of diagonal cutters in the middle of the junkyard...now THATS easy! ![]() Heres the difference in size between the calipers and brackets: G2 on top, G1 on bottom ![]() G1 on Left, G2 on Right ![]() G2 on Top, G1 on bottom ![]() Here's the difference in pad size (G1 pad inside the G2's bracket): ![]() Now here's the one thing thats a bit of a stickler to me...the brake lines angle requires that the driver's side caliper on the G2 needs to be placed on the PASSENGER'S side on the G1 (make sense? Read it again if need be ) and vise versa...the hose easily mounted up with some minimal wrestling, BUT it puts it into this weird "S" shape that I hope is okay....it looks fine to me and I have definitely seen brake hoses on other cars in FAR more precarious positions....just thought I'd point it out is all...![]() Last edited by sam o nela : 07-03-08 at 05:05 PM. |

Nice work! I bet you looked like a mad man running around switching parts back and forth! Hope this works out for you G1 guys, there's a surplus of these type 1 caliper assemblies for cheap!

Oh shiet, Gabe is at it again lol. If it really fits nicely, I'm going to buy G2 calipers. But for the main question here, what about the rears? I wonder if the rear calipers fit.

Maybe I'm just not getting this, but are the g2 legend brakes bigger and better? From the photos, the calipers look about the same to me.

Cool Gabe.
I have wanted to get the 2.7 sized rotors for a while but now this may bring another option. |

Yeah those pics were installed on a 2.7 at the junkyard....so if it pans out Ryan, the G2 might be a good route hahaha....
This is all preliminary still...everything mounted and tightened up...but of course the system was not bled nor was the car taken for a drive afterwards ![]() In fact this particular car will probably be going to the crusher any day now because the row it was in was already starting to be stripped down of the alternators, wiring harnesses, chrome, etc....so if its gone next time I go, I'll have to start all over! ![]() Anyhow...yeah I didnt even get a chance to eyeball the rears because I had just grabbed the front and focused on that before leaving, but I'll check it out next time unless someone else does before then... I'll also take a socket for the spindle nut so I can confirm or deny to interchangeability of the two hubs...again unless someone else does it before me hahaha... So anyone know the diameter of the G2's Type I rotors? |

Also Holymoo...yes the calipers, rotors, and pads are all larger on the G2....the pictures really dont do much justice in the "meat" difference...
Bigger brake components = more brake surface area = better stopping power. I know it wont be like night and day difference, but options are always great! Plus I think if we could get a 5-lug conversion out of it (LONG shot though)...then all this work wont be in vain ![]() |

the diameter should be 11.1 inch for both type 1 and type 2.
Prelude rotors (1997+) are 11.1 and 23mm, so if the Legend type 1 rotors are 23mm thick, you should look into the Prelude rotors.

Acura Media Newsroom: 1991 Acura Legend Specifications
Looks like the 4G (non vtec) is 10.2 and 23mm. nvm stock rotor - I see all that unused pad XD What is the new diameter you need that will go all the way out to the edge of the G2 pad?
