Well not much of an update....my Red Test Mule has gone to crusher heaven

So I gotta start again....BUT I was able to compare the two rotors (G2 to G1) and they are indeed BOTH the same diameter (11.1") but the G2 has more contact area than the G1's (if that makes sense)...I'll post up pics later...

Also, somebody took the knuckle off the G2 I had been using...so no hub

I didnt have time to start all over so thats why I only got to the rotors...next time I will dedicate a shitload of time to knock out the rest of my questions

I am thinking that maybe it will be possible to use the G2 caliper with a 3mm shim to make the bracket clear the disc like the one i used on the NSX bracket (28T)
[IMG][/IMG]

The prelude disc on the 5lug upgrade with the NSX caliper and 23T bracket (G2) looks to me that pads are not having enogh material touching the disc so what i did is used 2004 RL disc (11.8") to have more surface contact.

[IMG][/IMG]

As for the G1 brake upgrade without the 5-lug upgrade i am almost sure the yes like sam confirmed G2 caliper and 3mm shim (23T bracket) will do the trick...

well i thimk that both with or without the upgrade will need the 23T AND THE SHIM...

About a month ago i was trying to get more info on the brake upgrade when i ran into a thread for RL brake upgrade where one of the members call"brakeexpert" had an upgrade bracket for sale, well i went and PM this guy to see if i can get some bracket made before i found out about the RL rotor and he sent me this message that might help with our upgrade.

from brakexpert:

Re: 88 acura legend fron brake upgrade

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, sorry it took so long to get back to you.
the rear setup on my civic with the NSX calipers used a custom drum to disc adapter. I believe yours may use the same style bracket as fastbrakes makes. However, theirs is for Civics and Integras, and with those two, the rear caliper bracket spacing is about 1/4" more than yours and wont work. I may be making some custom brackets soon, and if I can make you some, I will put the two holes closer together. I can take my spare rear NSX bracket to the junkyard and test the adapter on a 1st gen legend as there are plenty.

Please note on the front and the Prelude 5 lug hubs are bigger and more restrictive on brakes. The 11.1" from the 91-95 Legend can be fitted, but stuff like the TL and S2k setups won't. Just FYI, the prelude 97 hubs can be removed and replaced with those from an RSX. Those hubs have a smaller diameter for the rotor, allowing the same 91 Legend brakes, but options for more. And because the RSX base and Type-S have 32mm and 36mm axle splines respectively, you could get beefier axles. I'm GUESSING the NSX took a 36mm and you may be using different endlinks, but i could be totally wrong.

I believe you need to swap out the whole thing where the oil filter sits. The 88-90 have that setup. It was completely different from the 86-87.

Yup, just pull one out, remove your old one and slap the new one in. Now you don't have to worry about the canisters.

Car2n thats some great info thanks!

I'm wondering if we could just shoot him another message stating that it'd be great if he could consider making a bracket off the 86-88 sedans and the rest since the two are in fact different...

Also, just for the record, yes, you can convert from the canister filter over to the spin-on type....part of me would love to, but then the other part of me loves the filter area provided by the old style

And that pic is not my car...its a car from the junkyard...

The canister for the oil filter. The 86-87 sedan and 87 Coupe has the oil filter that snaps in with clips, not like the the 88-90 Coupe and Sedan have the twist on filters.

car2n, I was wondering, is the shifter strong enough so it won't break? Cause it looks like you cut off the bottom part and weld it. Just don't want the damn thing break on you when shifting. Anyways, did you check out the suspensions?

Yes, i think it is it was mig welded shifter is about .095 wall thickness or less it will be ok and for the suspensions i did checked it but need to go back and review cause i am kinda of confused really don't know what will be the option for this type of application...

here's my 2 cents worth...
Rockauto.com has a great parts engine that allows you to look up parts from multiple car models fast and easy and often their dimensions as well. Brembo.com also has a good catalog with rotor dimensions for their 'stock replacement' rotors. 11.1 dia rotors are what we use and a lot of big Acuras but the thickness and 'hat height' is the key. Good luck.

Well i am working on upgrading the rear brakes with the rear NSX calippers i had made a aluminum bracket to attach the calippers to the rear of the G1 spindal calipper bracket still on preliminary stage but while i am working on this can anyone get me a pic of the rear G2 caliper bracket to campare against the NSX one, maybe they are the same and my custom bracket my work on the G2's rear caliper...

this a rough custom bracket once i get the final dimentioning i will send it to the machine shop, right now everything fits and clearences are ok...
