my measurement was rough so the 42" might be more like 40"...we should both bring our headers to the meet on the 15th and do a real life comparo.

wow, those numbers are so close to stock. and we are comparing from the 2.5L exhaust right? which i thought was the same as the others? just wanted to clear it up.
you guys really need to do a before obx dyno, and a after obx dyno then also maybe a obx with a highflow cat dyno. this will really show what kind of numbers we can expect from these crap toys (obx's)....

Yeah No problem....I'll bring em to the meet!
Alex, as far as the differences between 2.5 and 2.7, the rear manifold is a different part number, but the bolt pattern is exactly the same...the differences (whatever they may be) may be slight...but will not affect headers installation. Also, the stock manifolds (as is usually the case) all flow into on large cast-iron chamber/cavity and then dump into the 2" b pipe. After that, they hit the y pipe (pretty much an "h" shaped piece that connects the front and rear manifolds) and then flow to the cat through a 2" pipe. The OBX's start by flowing through a 3-1 tubes. However, the front bank hits the B-pipe while the rear bank is ONE PIECE with the B-pipe (but the are also 3-1). The entire assembly then flows into a 2-1 collector before the flex pipe and flows to the cat through a 2.5" pipe... SO on paper and in pictures, this setup just screams better flow...but we are going to need numbers.... Like Alex said, we would need a baseline with somebody with stock exhaust, and then (preferrably) an install with just headers (which appears to be possible from my and Brent's measurements) and then (if they'd like) a third dyno run with Headers and a full exhaust.... Maybe we should start a little G1 fund to help with the cost of this if someone is willing to be the guinea pig? I have a couple strikes against me because: 1) I have a 2.5 while the majority on here have 2.7s 2) I didnt dyno before full exhaust install... 3) My 2.5 is old and tired and would possibly churn out lower numbers anyhow We'll figure this one out guys...stay tuned... |

Just a Bumpdate:
Here are the pics of the two assemblies side by side courtesy of your friendly SoCal Crew ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see, there is in fact a 2" difference in length between the two pipes...if one did wish to install only headers and retain the stock cat and piping...it is indeed possible... |
