headlight question

If you look at the g1 headlights when they are on, only the outer part of the headlight really illuminates ( only low beam on ), and the rest of the headlight is dark, looks bad. The only time the whole headlight is lit up is when u have highbeams on also. What im trying to get to is, would it b possible to somehow have 2 lowbeam ( 9006 ) bulbs in each headlight, so my headlights will look more modern. I also posted about it here:

Won't work with the sedan. 9006 won't fit in the 9005 housing. Beam pattern will be the same in either case (determined by the lens fluting), so you will be essentially driving with your high beams on if you could do it.

The only difference between the 9005 and 9006 bulbs are:

wattage (9006 = 55 vs 9005 = 65 watts)
base size (9005 is slightly smaller than 9006)
mounting tabs on base are in different locations
glare cap on 9006, none on 9005
9005 connector has a rib in it, 9006 has none

Both are single filament bulbs in the same location.

As a side note, it WILL work with the coupes, because the coupes use dual filament 9004 bulbs in BOTH the high and low beam housings.

that sux, im going to try to get a spare set of headlights and see what i could do with the lense fluting, and try to match it up with the lowbeam fluting, becuase the headlights look soo much better when the whole headlight is illuminated

The 9004's in the high beam housing only has one filament hooked up (take a look at the wiring harness, and you'll see only two wires running from the connector). If you add the third wire, you'll have a functional low beam in the high beam housing because the lens fluting on both the low and high beam sides of the lamp are pretty much the same - the filament location is what determines the where the light goes.

This project has been on my list for the past year, but I haven't gotten around to it. Someone else on this board has done this modification with success, but I can't remember who.

ahhhh....I see. So how would you then do the double low and double high.. in other words...could you also rewire the low beam on the outer bulb to go on in high mode..as I think if you look right now it stays on as a low beam when the inner high beam bulb comes on !!!!????

Actually, if you shine your lights up against a wall and watch carefully, you'll see that the 9004 in the outer housing switches between filaments to provide a low AND high beam (in the outer housing). The inner housing will only come on when you've switched to the high beam. By adding the extra wire, you would have both low AND high beams in both housings, and ALL the filaments would have been utilized. As a safety precaution, I would run an extra switch to shut off the low beam in the inner housing, in case you are harrassed by cops. Although the beam pattern is in a low beam spread, some people (cops) may recognize it as a "high beam", even if the light spread isn't blinding, because no vehicle on the road has FOUR housings lit on a low beam mode. My idea is to find a yellow 9004 bulb to run in the inner housings, but I haven't been able to find one yet.

Acura used an odd design for the coupes, because 9004 bulbs are used in a single lamp / housing with paired headlights, with the dual filaments providing low and high beam patterns. In most cases, quad headlights use 9006 and 9005 single filament bulbs in dual housings, leaving the outer housing on when illuminating with the inner housings on high beam mode (unless you're GM, then you switch off the outers ).

The added benefit with these 9004s in our coupes is that if you ever burn out a low beam on the road, just swap that low beam bulb with a high beam bulb, and you're back in business.

I just had to say that when I first got my Legend coupe I thought it was 9005 and 9006 bulbs. Which would have been great cause I had a HID kit from my Beretta. The Beretta got totaled but the $950 Hella HID kit survived. Well I ended up modifying the buckets to take the 9006 bulbs. Acura messed up on that one!!!!
