Holy son of a mother !

When should I keep paying or give up?

I replaced so many parts on this car which I had for over a year and now I just found out more bad news.

Here is the list of parts I already replaced:

Alternator
Lower Ball Joint
Strut bars
Tourque Converter
Various Mounts
Engine pipe
Major tune which included spark pugs, filters etc
Timing Belt
Water Pump

Not to include were various maintenance parts such as brakes, battery, etc.

Next up: Radiator, Wheel Bearing, Radiator fan assembly.

To my surprise all the heating/cooling system components were original (Radiator, fans, hoses, etc).

Jeez, I know down the line my auto tranny (158 k) is due up !

I got the car with 140 K miles for about $2500. I probably have spent well over 2 K in repairs(Probably more).

Am i going too far with this car or is it worth it now that I already spent so much into it?

BTW, I still love my legend though!

If I were you, I would keep going with the car since you've already sunk so much money in it and given it so many new parts. You really didn't pay that much for it and it has another 150k left in it.

Give it a major tune up and that'll clear most of the nasty problems. Definetly since it's summer, get all the cooling hoses replaced. About your t/c, I dunno about that. I've never had mine go out on me. Did you try flushing out the tranny (part of major tune up) and see if that will elevate any problems? So, my recomendation is to get the alternator and a major tune up so you can buy some time to get the next wave of repairs in. Do it like how a General plan and win wars. Anyway, as for me, I know the pain you suffer in the wallet (been there), but I assure you, it'll probably be worth it in the end.

hey, I think you misread my post. I already got a tuneup and alternator.

That list is what I already did on the car.

The Radiator, cooling fan assembly and wheel bearings are the ones which are due up.

I changed the fluid to honda atf like 6 months ago and my tranny has been fine. It hasnt given me any problems but rarely do you see our auto trannys last more than 200 k. If I do encounter a problem with it, ill do the flush. I dont wanna flush it now since its fine and take a chance of damaging any of its components.

Ok, well, get the wheel bearings done ASAP. You don't want them to seize up on you. Not a good thing. My auto shop teacher saw a truck that seized it's wheel bearings on the freeway. The wheel snapped all the lugs and bounced all the way to the other side of the freeway and smashed a minivan's windshield.

I would keep replacing parts. It is nice if your was taken care of in previous owner. I bought a radiator of e bay for 109 so there are less expensive routes. My automatic also has 159K so I hope it lasts. My Grandpa bought the car new and they babied it and always had it serviced at Acura so hope mine lasts a long time. I need to by some honda atf though, right now I am running dexron with the converting additive lube guard (black bottle).

hey jesselean, I looked at auctions on ebay and there are several radiators ranging from 106 to 120 for our legends.

Did you order and install it? I wanna make sure that it will work and I have no problems with it. Dont wanan end up returning it or something.

Anyone bought radiators online for good prices? any recommendations?

Wheel bearings on cars don't usually sieze up. If it goes bad, it will most likely loosen up and come apart, causing the wheel to fall off. I've seen it happen before on a Hyundai. The guy was turning and his wheel fell off and went into oncoming traffic. One way to check to see if your bearings are good is raise the wheel off the ground and try to move the top and bottom of the wheel in & out.

If it is a front wheel bearing, they are a sealed roller bearing (like a rollerblade/skateboard). They will not make your wheel come off in ANY WAY (see the big@ss nut on the end of the CV shaft?) If they "go out" they will turn to molten metal slag and weld themselves to your spindle/hub assembly, requiring you to replace that. As soon as you smell it, and hear the screaching jet plane landing noise, and as soon as you see the burning metal smoke, and you pull over to stop the car, the metal cools and every thing locks up, which makes a tow in order. Hope I helped you a little.

Well the wheel bearing makes a annoying, vibrating sound which gets really annoying. It gets louder and louder as the car goes faster. Originally I thought it was the abs pump, then the power steering pump. Then my mechanic mentioned of the hub, now the wheel bearing after getting an in depth look.

I usually drive pretty aggressively, so last thing I was is my car to go one way and the wheel to another. Hmmm It might be fun for a second.

How much do wheel bearings go for and how much labor is involved?

wheel brgs. are about $45 ea.
Labor is what kills it... $2-275 ea. side....
Our wonderful super size skateboard bearings are press fit into our hub assemblies....

I did the labor on my own after finding out how much it cost, I went to the import tool place, found out presses cost around $200... just bought a 20 ton bottle jack. Went to the local metal scrappin yard and bought up some 3" C channel. Welded me up a press 20 Ton press with a total investment of $90 including horrible purple paint.

Pressed 'em myself... I'm cheap, ya know...

Alternate method, You just remove the whole hub assembly and take it to a mechanic with a press, my local guy said he'd only charge about $20 to press out a bearing and install a new one.

Hope it helps, and good luck with it. Mine was a pain, but I actually had fun with it... and I had an excuse to build my purple monster...

This is the radiator I bought http://www.911radiators.com/cgi-bin/...ators/P39.html . You can save 5 bucks on ebay if you prefer to, I did and it shipped to my door in five days or so. I had my brother in law help with the install. I would not attempt myself with out help but if you are mechanical hey give it a try. It is a pretty good radiator, with metal tanks which is a plus. I am glad I replaced mine for peace of mind.

I know your pain. The legend seems to be a money pit. For the handy guys it's not SO bad. I have spent money on my car EVERY
month since the last three years and have refused to do so in July just to take a break. I love the car but i do forsee a breaking point ahead.
But as one mechanic told me if your replacement car is new or nearly so -good ,but if you're replacing with a second hand car then your are ahead with the Legend.
I am close to 400000 km on my car and the sweet thing still purrs.
